Summary: Surprised Me ! 2008-08-09
Comment: This unit (I call it my bike bag) is just a tiny bit smaller than I'd like, but can carry essentials I don't want in my pockets. Good for maps, cigars or a pipe,a sandwich... maybe your phone... too small for a legal size letter to fit without crumpling. The dimensions shown for the product are the outside measurements and are by no means representative of what will fit inside. If you look at the picture you'll see what I mean. The end pieces fold inward rather than being straight across, so that limits things. The straps aren't long enough to allow you to stretch those end pieces straight. If you want to put a fat item in, or really fill the inside all the way, the straps won't reach the buckle. In fact the normal hole on the strap with nothing inside at all is the LAST position rather than the first. Like a belt, it won't go bigger than the last hole, so it is good only for the area inside without stretching it out. The picture shows it on the second hole, but if you pull it that tight, it actually squashes the top flap down a bit. Also, being in the last hole means the ends of the straps don't reach the metal loop completely and tend to work free. The bag doesn't come open... no problem there... the buckles are secure, but I don't see why straps were designed too small for the bag. Looks better that way I guess.
The good surprise to me is, on my VN900C I have no windshield so I strapped this in place looping around the vertical bars and over the handlebars so that it's right at the top. It kind of acts like a tiny wind deflector and kicks the wind away that played havoc with my neck before. It's easily worth the 25 bucks just for that reason!
Plus it looks very good and goes with the "custom" look of the bike.
I say buy this for carrying small items, but don't think you're getting any real capacity. Works fine, well made, but not properly thought out.
