Summary: If you don't think you should sacrifice style for function, buy this!!! 2007-05-17
Comment: This backpack bag is everything it says it is! The fabric is a thick durable silky soft brocade. The inside is a silky golden tan.
The backpack straps are about 1.5" wide and feel like durable nylon - I haven't yet worn this for any length of time on bare skin, but just testing it feels fine. I've certainly tried on backpack straps that hurt - this is smooth, and wide enough so it doesn't dig in. The straps are set apart 4.5" from inside to inside, and about 7.5" apart from outside to outside.
The dimensions of the backpack are about 14.25" wide, about 6.5" deep, and about 12" tall. I would say it's a generous size without being too big.
It comes with an adjustable shoulder strap that's folded inside one of the many well-sized pockets. In the main compartment, there are 3 pockets on one side, and 2 pockets on the other side. One of the 2 pockets comes holding a nice white hard plastic wipes container - can probably hold about 50-60 wipes or so.
There are small pockets on the left and right outside of bag - deep enough to fit my thick 1.5" cell phone in. (Oh, and I just tested - it also fits my digital camera (which is 4" x 1.5" x 2.65" but not in a separate case.))
The zipper on the front gives you access to a place for something thin, like a kids book or a small personal notebook (mine is 7x5). There's also a small pocket inside this that also fits my cell phone or pens well.
On the back there is ANOTHER pocket (which I'm using to hold empty gallon-sized ziplock baggies) that just has a snap in the center to close. This pocket also comes with a thick "paperery-like" drawstring bag that is folded up - it measures 21" tall by 24" wide!!!
It comes with a changing pad that is the same silky golden tan fabric bound with fabric matching the outside of the bag. It's 22" long by 14" wide.
The "messy" drawstring bag is 11" tall by 9.5" wide. This bag, the cosmetic pouch and pacifier pouch are all also made of the same super soft fabric as the backpack. Definitely the prettiest messy bag ever!
It's really well-constructed and sturdy - I wouldn't be worried about anything falling off without help from a crane pulling on it.
Because the fabric is so nice and thick, it is a little on the heavy side (approx. 4 lbs with the stuff it comes with in it), but totally worth it.
Also, be aware that the pattern of the fabric also has flowers with asian red in addition to the lavender so the front of backpack may have only red flowers instead of lavender (my only disappointment). I still think having the brown pattern, however, will hide baby stains well.
Overall, I would HIGHLY recommend buying this beautiful diaper backpack!
