Summary: Don't be scared by other reviews.. 2007-04-07
Comment: There are a lot of negative reviews about this combo dresser (they're on the pages for this dresser in other colors, but I have the cherry one). So, I was a little nervous about ordering it, but it turned out to be a great choice. I had no shipping problems, nothing was broken or missing in the box, and I put it together myself at 8 months pregnant. True, the directions are less than perfect - the diagrams show holes that aren't there - but if you've ever put together any kind of furniture before, you should be able to figure it out pretty easily. The only part I had trouble with were the door hinges and getting the door to align with the cabinet frame, and that is a matter of "regulating" the hinges, according to the instructions. That is the reason for 4 stars instead of 5.
Some people complained about the drawer guides not being aligned, but mine were fine. I do think they should have sent small finishing nails to attach the back, instead of making you screw in about 40 small screws, but you can get those cheap at a hardware store to save your hands the extra work!
One word of caution, though, if you get the matching hutch - a standard 32" changing pad will no longer fit on the dresser once the hutch is added. You'll need a 29" or 30" one, which are harder to find but still available.
In short, this dresser was a great value for the money, and is just the right size for our nursery. Don't be scared off by the other reviews. Maybe they just had a bad shipping company, or maybe Storkcraft has fixed its packaging problems. Either way, mine arrived safe and intact, and was not difficult to assemble.
