Product Review
Product Description

Hear, record and e-mail your unborn baby's heartbeat, kicks, and hiccups. How exciting to hear the sounds of your unborn baby's little kicks, soft hiccups, and rapidly beating heart in the privacy of your own home. You should hear these sounds at the beginning of your third trimester.

What will her heartbeat sound like? Your baby's heart beats 140-170 times a minute and will sound like a rapidly galloping horse. Her hiccups will sound like 2 rapid drumbeats, and her kicks will sound like soft thuds. You will also hear the nutrients passing through the placenta. This will have a whooshing sound.

But don't just listen to these sounds share your joy. Included is a special recording cable so you can record your baby's sounds with your own recording device, e-mail your baby's sounds to family and friends and record your own heartbeat to soothe your newborn baby.

The Deluxe Prenatal Heart Listener includes a Fetal Monitor, 2 Headsets and a special Recording Cable. It requires one 9-volt battery (not included).

Summary: Most effective after about 24 weeks 2008-06-29
Comment: The bummer about this product is that it's so sensitive to outside sounds. I found I couldn't hold this on my belly because I'd hear the sound of my hand/fingers cracking (or just making noise) as I was trying to hold the monitor still. I found it most effective if I tucked it in the waistband of my pants and was super still. Don't get me wrong, it was still really amazing to hear the baby's movements and heartbeat...you just have to make sure you're in a very quiet place at the time.

Summary: Not worth it 2008-06-26
Comment: I purchased this product when I was pregnant with my first child. I first tried it at 20 weeks. SO disappointed, all I could hear was my heartbeat. I tried again at 30 weeks, again no luck. I even took it with me to my OB/GYN appointment and the doctor said that was indeed my own heartbeat. I finally rented a doppler unit. Expensive but worth it.

Summary: Not worth it! 2008-06-02
Comment: Great concept but it doesn't work. I'm 37 weeks and STILL cannot hear the baby's heartbeat and my baby is very active. It just amplifies background sound.

Summary: Third trimester only?! 2008-04-24
Comment: I didn't want to believe all the negative reviews, and I still wish I knew whether other reviewers used ultrasound gel with this monitor, and whether that helps. However, I went to buy the thing anyway at a big baby store and was extremely disappointed to see on the box that it only picks up the heartbeat in the third trimester (says maybe sometimes at 20 weeks). I just realized that is probably because this is not advertised as a doppler, it's just an amplifier. Well, "third trimester only" is not useful to me at all. By then I will have seen the baby on the 20-week ultrasound and I'll know it's fine. I am in my first trimester and I want to be able to check the heartbeat every now and then. My doc's doppler machine was able to pick up the heartbeat at 10 weeks. That makes this monitor pretty lousy by comparison, and unfortunately the real dopplers start at $100 to buy.

Summary: complete waste of money 2008-04-22
Comment: This product does not allow you to hear a single thing from the womb, I am 8 months pregnant and have tried several times to hear anything. Because it amplifies ALL sounds, the thing you hear most is your fingers as you desperately try to hold it as still as possible. I think it is appalling that they advertise that you can hear the heartbeat and hiccups and fetal movement, you can't hear anything, and believe me I followed all the directions and tried several times. They obviously know the product doesn't work because they place several warnings about following the directions and "being patient" if you don't hear anything. When I sent feedback via the company's website - I was directed to Graco - I am shocked that a company that usually has such great products would back such a flawed one.

Save your money - this product stinks!
