Summary: Worth the batteries 2008-09-10
Comment: Our daughter is very happy with this swing, which we received as a gift. When she is kind of fussy and holding her just isn't doing the trick, this swing rocks...but fast it is. When she was very young, we joked she would just swing over the top and make a loop, but as another review stated, she seems to like that. Also, it is a good place for her to rest if she is sniffly. How else would you comfortably sleep upright? None of the sounds get on our nerves, and she seems to have various preferences for them at different times. One of her first smiles was directed at the little orange toy...we think.
Maybe we don't use it that much, but we have only replaced the batteries 2 or 3 times in 4 months. Also, we use the swing with a Boppy Noggin Nest so she doesn't get "flat head."

Summary: A SERIOUS waste of money 2007-08-28
Comment: This swing gets one star because it's easy to fold up and store. That's it. We loved it when we first got it. Then we discovered that it went through 4 D batteries EVERY WEEK. We used it anyway, and paid out our ears for batteries for a couple of months. Then, after about 2 months of use, it started slowing down. A week later it wouldn't go at all. Now it sits in our storage room while I think evil thoughts about sending it to the dump. It's a classy LOOKING swing, but a piece of crap. I'm still mad that I spent $100 on that useless thing. It's been almost a year and a half since we got it.
But who knows? Maybe ours was just a faulty one. Or maybe they all just suck. Not a risk I'm ever going to take again. Seriously, don't buy it. If your experience is anything like ours, you'll regret it for the rest of your life. :)

Summary: We couldn't have survived without it, but a warning: it swings fast 2007-03-21
Comment: From about 2 to about 5 months, our daughter was inconsolable in the evenings; this swing totally calmed her to sleep and enabled us to make dinner and have conversations and all those other normal evening activities for an hour or two. The "ocean sounds" were highly effective at calming her fussing, and unlike the various other nature sounds and tinkly music, it didn't drive us crazy. Although she doesn't require nightly swinging anymore, the swing has still come in handy for occasional entertainment and especially to help her sleep when she has a cold. The swing requires 4 "D" batteries, and seems to work around 12 or 15 hours on one set. You actually get a warning when the batteries are dying, because the music sounds die before the rocking motion does.
HOWEVER, after seeing other swings at other people's homes and in day care facilities, I'll add a warning: this swing is VERY fast. It has six speeds, but even the lowest of those speeds is not a gentle cradling motion, but a serious rocking. Our daughter clearly liked that, but it also just as clearly spoiled her for most other swings. I bought a Fisher-Price Aquarium Take-Along Swing for use at work, and its highest speed wasn't even half the lowest speed of the Evenflo Smart Fold swing. She was completely unimpressed.
The folding legs do make it very easy to pack this swing up and put it in the car, though there's no one-hand carry handle; putting it in the car requires a separate trip to the trunk.
All in all, I recommend this swing as it saved our sanity for those first few months, with the warning that its swing speed is very high and could be disturbing or startling to more sensitive babies.
