Amazon.com Product Reviews
Without getting too technical in the digital versus analog sound argument, let's just say that the digital Graco Baby iMonitor utilizes newer technology for sound clarity and immense range. They claim 2,000 feet, and it worked fine from the backyard to the inside of the house. It also has an out-of-range alarm if that should ever happen. The first thing you notice is the construction of the receiver. It is tough, sturdy, and portable--it clips on to your belt and is small enough to go almost unnoticed. The sound meter is easily read and comes with a rechargeable battery and docking station. The base unit is fairly inconspicuous, and it has a battery backup if ever the power should go out (three AAA batteries not included). --Scott Teal

Summary: Parent Unit battery will die. Replacement battery won't work either. 2008-08-04
Comment: After the battery in the parent unit quit taking a charge, I came online to see if others were having the same problem. I did not read ALL the reviews, but I did not see that anyone had replaced the rechargeable battery. I got one at Batteries Plus and it does not charge up initially either.
After reading the instruction book again, I realize that I did not follow the instructions as I did when I originally set up the monitor. I will start froj scratch with the new battery by making sure nursery unit is OFF while I try and charge the parent unit battery. Shouldn't make a difference---if the battery were chargeable, it should charge when the parent unit is on the parent base which is plugged in! Seems to me that the charging apparatus within the parent unit has gone bad, not the original battery....I'll get back to you all. I will also be calling Graco about this tomorrow AM, so maybe their answer will help you make a decision about this otherwise great product!

Summary: Constantly loses signal 2008-07-30
Comment: I have to agree with most of the negative reviewers on here, this really is a rather poor product since it doesn't always work. The main problem is the thing is constantly dropping connection, I mean we live in a small single floor apartment so I'm not looking to go large distances with the thing and it's CONSTANTLY dropping connection. As a few other reviewers mentioned, we need to find that sweet spot in order to get it to stay connected, once we do it works great but if we move it... beep beep beep beep beep beep beep. It's really rather annoying, so annoying in fact we trashed it and bought the Safety 1st high def monitor which works MUCH better. All I can suggest is if you want to try the unit out make sure you have a good return policy. Maybe in a house it won't pick up as much interference and constantly drop connection like it does for us in a condo.

Summary: Ugh, Very Disappointing!!!! 2008-07-12
Comment: This monitor is a PAIN to say the least. This is our 2nd time buying Baby Monitors. We chose this one based on the great Consumer Product Reviews it recived. The testing facilities must not be very unrealistic because this monitor works terribly!!! It's digital which we thought would be clearer and have longer range than our older analog model. Boy were we ever wrong!!! This thing beeps ALL THE TIME!!! The signal just goes out for no apparent reason. Don't get me wrong when it works it is very clear but the problem is getting to maintain a good digital signal. We have tried EVERYTHING and nothing stops this thing from beeping. We don't have a ton of electronics and wiring in our home. It's very frustrating to hear it at all hours of the night.
My advice it to go with ANALOG and leave the digital behind. I am doing it as we speak.

Summary: Worthless battery 2008-07-11
Comment: When fully charged, the battery in the parent unit only lasts 15 minutes. Unfortunately, I have to move the base around for the parent unit in order to use it. It would be better if the parent unit took AA batteries, then at least I could replace them!

Summary: Not what I paid for. 2008-06-19
Comment: At first I was very pleased with this monitor, it actually took me about 4 or 5 months to start hating it.
Why I bought it:
The distance from our bedroom to the baby's is about 60 feet, so we needed range. Plus we do things outdoors while the baby is napping so the cordless feature was nice too. This unit advertises "up to 2000 feet" so I figured it could easily go up to 100 feet which is all we really needed. The "digital" part was attractive too - crystal clear sound.
Why I don't think I got what I paid for:
- The unit does work from 60 feet - but only when plugged in. It only likes to be at a certain angle and if its moved only an inch away from its "happy place" it will lose signal.
- When it loses signal, its supposed to beep to let you know (a safety feature); this feature only works when its plugged in.
- When we first got it, the batteries lasted about 4 hours. After only a couple months use, the battery life was down to a few minutes. When the batteries die, its supposed to beep (another safety feature); it doesn't do that anymore. The light on the front turns red and thats it.
- The digital part isn't much help either. This unit operates at 2.4 Ghz, we also have a phone and a wireless router operating at 2.4 Ghz. When the unit has interference issues, it makes a lovely "popping" noise, sometimes once every few seconds.
Is this unit for you?
If you don't mind leaving it plugged in all the time and you live in a Faraday Cage, then this unit should be fine for you. For everyone else, however, I would suggest to keep looking. It doesn't do what they say it'll do, and the fact that the safety features keep failing makes me uneasy.
