Summary: The heads of 2 of the screws snapped off :( 2007-11-22
Comment: I like the fact that the lid is designed to close slowly, so your little one can keep his/her fingers. :)
The wood itself seems pretty durable, but I had a little trouble with the screws when I was putting it together. The heads of 2 screws snapped off while I was putting it together. This happened despite the fact that I closely followed the assembly instructions, which said to use a handheld screwdriver as opposed to a power screwdriver.
At first, I thought the problem might be that I was using the wrong sized screwdriver, but a gentleman at the local hardware store confirmed that I was indeed using the right sized screwdriver.
The holes were all pre-drilled, which was nice. However, since I couldn't get the 2 broken screws out of the wood, I had to re-drill those 2 holes, and since those 2 holes were shifted over by a half of an inch, I had to re-drill *ALL* the holes in the lid (8 new holes altogether).
I finally got the toy box assembled, and it works fine now, but the lid is not perfectly centered.
If you get this toy box, be very very very gentle on the screws. If they're too loose, you can always tighten them up later, right?

Comment: The toy box required relatively little assembly and it had clear directions. It's a nice looking, roomy box. The only reason that I didn't rate it 5 stars is because there is only one choice of finish. I would have preferred a golden oak color, rather than the lighter one.

Comment: I found this chest to be good quality, easy to assemble and very nice looking. The lid hinge is great, it works very well and my 19 month old has no trouble lifting the lid without injury.

Summary: Research Paid Off Before Buying - This TOYBOX is GREAT 2005-06-27
Comment: I spent several weeks researching the best toybox to purchase for my 18 month old son. We were looking for 1)Safety 2)Durability 3)Value and 4)A toy box that would be a nice piece of furniture that would compliment the room where it will be utilized, as well as, something that a child would not outgrow (like a plastic multi colored toy box). Overall, I am very pleased with this toybox. It assembled rather easily (about 1/2 hr). The piece has a nice finish and looks great in our Living Room. Although, it is NOT a solid hardwood throughout, it is made very well and assembles easily. It is plenty durable for any child and has TWO great SAFETY hinges for the top cover. The top cover is partially hollowed and is lighter than a solid hard-wood cover, BUT is is very sturdy and made very well. I would recommend this toybox to anyone. The price was a little on the higher side, but it is worth it when compared to other comprable toy chests. You do get what you pay for. This is a good value!!

Comment: This is the best toy box. It holds a huge amount of toys, and my 18 month old has no problems opening or closing it. It only took 20-30 minutes to put together. I would definitly recommend it.
