Summary: Definitely over rated and over priced 2005-06-03
Comment: We bought this careseat for our first child as we received the Peg Perego Venezia stroller as a gift and thought a travel system would be a good idea. Naturally, only Peg Perego fits in Peg Perego so we were sort of stuck with getting the Viaggio.
Anyway, we've concluded that the Peg Perego products we've purchased are definitely over rated. Our son HATED this carseat from the minute we put him in it coming home from hospital. The seat is way too deep and he was really squished. Very restrictive movement wise (were they trying to create a 'womb' effect here?) and heavy. Complete misery every car ride. A few weeks later, I borrowed a Graco seat from a friend and it was like night and day. Suddenly, pleasant car rides. My little guy would actually sleep in his car seat- unheard of in the Perego. Perego out, Graco in.
And a side note on travel systems: waste of money in my opinion especially with only one child. Buy a Graco and a Kolcraft snap n' go. The basket is bigger and it's compatible with just about every car seat on the market including the elusive Perego. I even used this setup for the second- much more convient then lugging around that huge stroller and the carseat.

Summary: A Much Better Buy 2005-04-19
Comment: We purchased this carseat for our daughter after much research and even buying and returning another brand. This carseat is safer than American Carseats because the standards are higher in Europe for Carseats. The thread count on the straps makes this a great buy not only because they are safer but they also don't curl up like other brands. This carseat does not weigh 25 lbs. like some people state. It is slightly heavier than others but not enough to tell. It goes awesome with the stroller because it is lightweight and can travel in smaller spaces better. LOVE IT!

Summary: Wonderful Infant Seat 2005-04-13
Comment: Everyone told me to get a Graco but my mother (bring old school) said that Peg Perego was one of the best brands for babies and celebrities still used this brand. My daughter used this seat until she was one years old and 18 pounds. The only thing that I dislike about this seat was that it is extremley heavy ( like 25 pounds before baby) so add 18 pounds and you get a heavy seat, but it is very sturdy and it has a great harness system!

Summary: Worth the money 2005-04-08
Comment: I definitely feel that this seat is worth the extra money over the other popular seats. It seems to have more cushioning and just feels more substantial. I do agree with some of the other reviewers that the seat is warm. My son (who is 3 months now) sweats terribly in it, which is a problem since we live in Florida. He outgrew the head rest rather quickly, but he also had great head control and he hated the head rest -- I think he felt too confined. The only other drawback about the seat is its weight - very heavy. A plus is that it fits my Maclaren Global stroller very nicely. All in all, a good, safe seat.

Summary: Functional Overall but Overheats Child! 2005-03-15
Comment: When I initially registered for and received this seat there were only a few reviews. It was important to me to provide feedback on this seat and I finally have the time to do it (my son is now 10 months). Was I pleasantly surprised at the number of reviews now. I think this is an adequate overall seat but it was important to me to caution other moms about the heat factor. My son was born in May and summers where I live in the midwest get very hot and humid. I didn't realize how hot the seat was until one day on one of our walks (we have a car seat adaptor for our stroller) I saw sweat dripping down my son's face. He was okay but I worried that he had heat exhaustion because we had been out for so long -- luckily he didn't. Later on other outings in the car with the air conditioning on his back would sometimes be sweaty when we took him out of the seat. This obviously makes you feel horrible as a parent. I don't think there is any excuse for this with the high-tech fabrics and materials that are out there today that wouldn't compromise the safety of the carseat -- especially considering the seat's price. As for the other issues people have mentioned -- I didn't have a problem with the size. My son never cried or had a problem being in it. He outgrew it just after three months but he is and was in the 97th percentile for height and weight. Also, it wasn't heavy for me but that could be because I was so used to carrying a big baby! It is definitely a great-looking seat. I can't really comment on the ease of installation because we had guidance from a local safety institute. It always clicked into and out of the base easily. The head, shoulder strap, and crotch pads looked like they made my son really comfortable. I just washed up the seat cover and corresponding pads for storage and they washed up easily and well. I do wish that the carrying bar made it easier to strap toys on that dangle in front of the baby but my son has lots of toys and I think it's interesting and educational to look at the world around him as well.
