Summary: Good quality but way too heavy... 2008-04-29
Comment: I was looking around for a double stroller - and when I found the peg perego (the one that matches this car seat) - I realized I was going to need a new car seat since my graco was not compatible with it. So, we bought this car seat (we have a toddler and a newborn). The car seat is great. Very solid, padded...seems so much studier than my graco was. However, I didn't realize the seat was 17 lbs WITHOUT my baby in it. Everyone who sees me struggling with it offers to take the baby and they remark how heavy the seat is. Plus, on days when I don't need my double, I wanted to buy a universal snap and go type of stroller, but this seat is not compatible with any of them - which almost brought me to tears since the seat is so combersome. I don't like that the hood of the seat and the handle are so close, on cold, windy days, or even on sunny days, it makes it hard to keep the baby's face covered/protected. Plus, I can't adjust the straps on the seat any higher in the back of the seat and my 5 month old's little feet stick out from the seat. I can't imagine how he'll look in 4-5 more months. And I can't even think of buying another seat after the price we paid for this one. Overall, the seat is wonderful - if you don't mind the weight of the seat, the lack of compatibility with other strollers, and the price.

Summary: Better than average quality 2008-03-05
Comment: This is our second carseat. Compared to our first, an Evenflo, we love this carseat.
As carseats go, I don't find this one any heavier than others. They are all uncomfortably heavy in my opinion. The fabric seems better than average quality. The base installs into the car relatively easily. I found it easy to buckle my child into the seat. I don't have any trouble with my child's head falling to the side or being unable to recline as some others have reported. I imagine it has something to do with the angle of the seat in your vehicle. With our first child we did have this problem when we had a differnt car and carseat. The canopy stays up well as it "clicks" into place when it is pulled all the way forward. One thing I didn't like about the canopy is that when it is clicked into place there is little room between it and the carrying handle. You can see this in the product illustation on this website. The thing which I really love about this carseat is the lap cover which easily snaps on, has a flap which can cover the childs face and shield them from the wind, and the rain cover which is tucked into a zippered comparment. The ends of the elastic straps could have been finished off as mine did start to ravel, however it has held up over a very long winter. This makes it convenient for those colder climates.

Summary: Please read this before you buy this poorly made car seat. 2008-03-04
Comment: If I can stop just one parent or guardian from purchasing the Primo Vaggio SIP car seat from Peg Perego, then I have accomplished what I set out to do. This car seat claims to hold a child up to 22 pounds and 30 inches. This was all well and good for my newborn son for the first few months of his life, however he has grown to be a big boy. At 5 1/2 months he now weighs 17 1/2 pounds and is 27 inches long. Due to this, his car seat no longer accomodates him.
Yes, Peg Perego claims it will fit babies up to 22lbs/30 inches- but this is a false statement. I have made the straps to the car seat as loose as I can, have adjusted the seat height as many times as I could, and still, the straps are too small to fit around my generously sized son. He screams the second we put him into the car seat, because he must feel like an elephant being squeezed into a mouse hole. The straps dig into his chest, and his crotch. He DID love his car seat, and taking rides in the car. Now the opposite is true. The second we close the straps on his car seat, he screams in pain as the straps dig into his body. To make matters worse, I was never able to put my son into the car while he was wearing his snowsuit. The straps never fit around him, and the snowsuit, even when he was 13 pounds. You would think that Peg Perego would take into consideration that babies don't always wear thin jackets, and in the dead of winter, they need a larger jacket. So why aren't the straps made to extend longer than they are? It's as if they are deliberately doing this so that you are forced to buy a new car seat from them when they grow out of it well before they are supposed to.
Peg Pergeo was a trusted name for me, and it did keep my child safe--- when he was able to fit INTO it that is. My warning to all parents considering this car seat- you never know how big your baby will be at 4 months, 5 months, etc. This car seat does not accomodate big babies, or their heavy coats/jackets.
I have just ordered the Maxi Cosi Priori of which can be used as a backwards facing car seat for infants 5lbs.-22 lbs., and front facing for 23 lbs. and up. In my eyes, this is a much better investment, as it will grow with my son, instead of him growing out of it. Maxi Cosi is a European brand, and their safety tests, rules, and regulations are 3 times stricter than that of the United States safety test for car seats. So now, I feel secure on all levels with my new car seat.
Do your research before you buy this car seat, because you do not want to spend 200+ dollars and have to buy another one a few months later when your baby grows a few pounds. Good luck, and congratulations!

Summary: I love this seat! 2007-11-09
Comment: I love this seat! It is well made and has great safety ratings. The print is very handsome. There is nothing about this seat that feels chincy or cheap. It is also relatively easy to install as car seats go. I highly recommend it.
