Product Review
Product Description

The secret is the patented non-spill, easy-sip Philips AVENT Magic Valve found only in the Philips AVENT Magic Cup. While drinking, the valve flexes open for air to flow in, allowing a continuous flow of liquid out. That means less suction is needed, making drinking from the Magic Cup easy for babies and toddlers. So easy in fact, that you can introduce cup feeding, using the Magic Cup, months earlier than other non-spill cups. When not in use, the Magic Valve closes so no messy spills occur. The cups are easy to assemble and take apart and are dishwasher safe. Includes a Soft Spout for easy transition from breast or bottle to cup.

Summary: Poor design dont be decieved by looks 2008-06-25
Comment: I bought this for my 7 month old as I liked avent pacis. Looking outside it looked like the best buy among all other brands as it had a lid and also measurements in oz and ml on the side both great features missing in other brands. But the problem with this is it is very tough for baby to get any liquid out. I spent more time trying to figure out if my baby was getting anything in his mouth at all. As another reviewer mentioned this cup is sip proof too!!!

Summary: Spill proof and sip proof, too 2008-05-27
Comment: I bought the 6m+ version of these sippy cups as my daughter has used Avent bottles with great success. My major problem with these cups is that they are so incredibly hard to get any liquid through that my daughter couldn't drink from them!

We tried several times over the course of a couple months (she was 6 months when we started them) with no success. When I tried the cup to see if she was just giving up on it because it was new, *I* had a hard time getting the liquid out!

So, while I think the rest of the cup is designed well, the handles are easy to grab, the bright colors catch her eye, I through the sippy lid to the back of the drawer. We now use the colored cup part more as an indicator that it does not contain milk, and have started using a Playtex sippy with great success.

It's definitely spill proof, but unless your kid is a master of sucking, this very well could be sip-proof as well.

Summary: Versitile, functional, love 'em 2008-04-28
Comment: These are great sippies. I understand the complaints about the many parts, but I haven't found this to be a problem at all. Just put the cup back together when you take it out of the dishwasher B4 you put it away, so you don't lose parts.

I also like that the handles are detachable, because -
1.)You can twist the handle after you tighten the lid so that the handles match up with how your child needs to hold them to get the spout into their mouth. - Rather than with other sippy cups, where you have to work hard to get the handles lined up with the spout so your child isn't having to hold the cup all crooked to get the spout in their mouths straight.
2.)You can remove the handles all together as your child gets older and you want to train them to hold a regular cup. It's part of the "stages of growth" design.

The spout is soft and comfortable, and easy for baby to work (works with suction, not bite pressure). My breast-fed baby figured it out very easily, the first day we gave it to her.

They absolutely DO NOT spill! Baby can shake it all she wants - no worries. HOWEVER - the spout will leak if the spout gets squeezed or bent, BUT ONLY A SMALL AMOUNT (whatever liquid is already stuck in the tip of the spout will leak out, and that's it. Maybe 1/4 tsp.?-- even when upside down, once that tiny bit comes out, it will stop leaking). When I travel with one, I just squeeze the liquid out B4 I throw it into the diaper bag (I don't even use the lid), and it never leaks!

As someone mentioned, the hole above the spout (used to enable liquid to flow freely) does leak sometimes. I notice that if I overfill the cup, it leaks while she's drinking and can even squirt on baby's nose. Kind of uncomfortable. But if I don't overfill it, it only leaks occaisionally, and the spout is designed so that the liquid that does leak, runs onto the spout and into her mouth without getting on her nose.

Best sippy we've EVER used with our 4 children!

Summary: Good cup. 2008-01-20
Comment: We've used these cups since my son was about 7 months old. It took him a bit to get used to the difference in sucking on the cup vs. bottle/nursing but it that really didn't take more than a few days. There are a lot of parts (5 in all) to it but I run them all through the dishwasher (the smaller ones in the silverware basket) so it's not a big deal to clean them at all. They've held up well for more than a year and we plan to use them with the next child. It's nice that they are interchangeable with other Avent cups/bottles and they really do not leak compared to others we've seen.

Summary: Too many parts 2008-01-12
Comment: These work well enough as sippy cups and it is nice that the parts are interchangeable from bottle to sippy. However you don't save any money because all the parts cost more than most sippy cups. The real problem is that there are too many parts. Too much trouble to have to assemble and disassemble and make sure all the parts get washed and dried and not misplaced. There is the bottle itself, handles, screw cap, mouth piece, valve, and finally the cap.
