Summary: fairly easy and beautiful belly cast 2008-03-31
Comment: i had casted a friend's belly once before. we used plaster from home depot and thin, soft gauze strips. it didn't work all that well and so i thought i'd give an actual belly cast kit a try. first of all, the fact that the plaster was in the strip rolls was so convenient! just had to dip in water and it was ready to go! didn't use the belly cream that came w/ it b/c altho it's not "organic" vaseline works much better. liked that it included a plastic drop cloth and gloves...that was great! and the rolls of gauze were so abundant! i have enough left over to make another cast!
the reason i gave it 4 instead of 5 stars is that i think that the gauze should be a little stiffer. it's stiff when u cut it, but when u dip in water it becomes too limp and there is some work required to try to keep in flat and to keep it from rolling in on itself. i had a friend help me, she dipped the strips and flattened them out and i applied. if she hadn't helped, it would've taken me twice as long. as it was, it took about an hour.

Summary: Less exciting than you think! 2008-03-29
Comment: This is a great product and I am so glad we used it. We casted my wife's belly just three days before she delivered, so we will always remember how LARGE she was! ha It is easy to forget, but we have a reminder displayed in our home! Guests love it and family members who didn't get to see us while she was pregnant appreciate it. Most importantly, we can now show little Gavin what he did to mommy's body!
The product is probably a little harder to use than you think . . . I am a physician and cast body parts regularly, but this was much more difficult! I would recommend covering everything within range and wear old clothes because this stuff makes a mess! Also, it sets pretty quickly, so use small strips, but it takes hours to dry enough for her to move, so make sure she is comfortable. The only mistake I made is using too long of strips. I cut mine into some strips about 6-8 inches long, some about 18 inches long and some more about 28-30 inches long. The longer ones were almost impossible to deal with! The shorter ones conform better to her shape and offer more stability due to the overlapping strips. Make sure the room is warm, too, because the wet strips will cool quickly and make her uncomfortable.

Summary: Good product especially for the price 2008-01-20
Comment: I purchased the pregnancy belly cast kit and was extremely satisfied. My mother and sister did this for me one Saturday night and it only took about 30 minutes as indicated in the directions. We let it dry another 10 minutes or so before we took it off and then it sat overnight to ensure it was dried completed. We have not sanded it, yet, but I am sure it will not be difficult considering how hard it is. One suggestion is to have all of the pieces cut prior to starting the application as it dries quickly. It is also probably best for two people to help you for this same reason. We only used 3 1/2 of the 4 rolls given and perhaps it would have been a good idea to use it all. Overall, I am very happy with this product and so glad I got to use the mold before I have my baby.

Comment: As the father that actually had to apply this to a pregnant wife, it went much better than I expected. It was pretty straightforward and went on quite well and quickly. I would recommend cutting into smaller strips to make it easier to apply.
While I cannot fully appreciate the beauty and joy of the belly cast my wife is absolutely thrilled and that's all that really matters to me at this point.
