Summary: don't lose it 2008-03-31
Comment: This is a good locking system, none of our 5 kids have figured it out until old enough to use it. It is rather pricey...so don't lose the magnet key as we did. Thats the down side, something to misplace, and unless you break the cabinet, or buy a new key, you can't get in. Which is really the point of the lock. So don't lose the key.

Summary: Excellent lock, but expensive 2007-09-20
Comment: We installed Tot Loks on all our "critical" drawers and cabinets (knives, utensils, tools, etc.) and cheaper push-down style locks on other drawers and cabinets. The Tot Loks are far more secure and much easier to use, and there's little chance you'll pinch a finger like with the push-down locks.
The two disadvantages to this system are the expense and the fact that you can't open anything if you lose the lock (unless you have access to a powerful rare-earth magnet). The expense for the base system is justifiable; almost anything is cheaper than a trip to the emergency room with a badly cut or poisoned toddler. But Safety1st's management apparently figured out that the way to really make money on this product is to jack up the price on the one part of the system that isn't securely screwed to your cabinets. I guess they figured that if you can't open anything in your kitchen, you'll be willing to pay a hefty price for a replacement "key".
Luckily, they've dropped the price on the replacement keys (at least it's cheaper than a key plus two locks), so I'm rating this as a 4 because it really is an excellent system.

Summary: Tot Lok is a great product. 2006-07-26
Comment: I'd have to suggest that the other reviews were either sour grapes over the price of the magnet alone (reasonable, and I can't figure out why a magnet alone is so much compared to a kit with locks included) or a misunderstanding about how the product works.
The reviewer who downrated because "it's only a magnet" may not realize that the lock itself if MECHANICAL (plastic interfaces that interlock) with a MAGNETIC RELEASE. The drawer/cabinet is NOT kept closed via magnet.
I might suggest moving over to the kits that contain the magnet along with the locks, however. You'll need several magnets unless you are locking multiple cabinets in the same room.

Summary: Single Key for Tot Lock too expensive 2005-10-12
Comment: This is only the magnet for opening the Tot Locks, and it costs more than the Tot Lok Starter Set, which includes 2 Tot Locks along with the key! Save 2 bucks and get more locks and buy the starter set.

Summary: We love Tot-Locks - but this item is pricey! 2001-08-08
Comment: We think that the tot-lok is a great system. Easy to install and secure. Our toddler has figure out how to open some other kinds of lock but not this one. Although I like the tot-loks and recommend them, I have to give this particular item a low rating. It's just a magnet....
