Product Review
Product Description

The First Years Close & Secure Sleeper makes co-sleeping safer and easier. It allows you to feed, soothe, monitor and bond with your baby throughout the night, with the reassurance that Baby is snug, secure and comfortable next to you in your bed. Designed to be easily portable for on-the-go convenience, it can also be used in Baby's crib to ease the transition from your bed to the crib.

The Close & Secure Sleeper features soft sides, a vinyl-covered mattress and a removable sheet. The patented Airflow design allows air to circulate, and the built-in nightlight makes it easy for you to check on Baby during the night without turning on bright lights. Can be used until babies are able to roll over. Requires 2 "AA" batteries (not included).
Amazon.com Product Description

The First Years deceptively simple Close & Secure Sleeper allows you to feed, soothe, monitor, and bond with baby in the comfort of your own bed. Meant to be used from birth until baby rolls over or pushes up on their own, the sleeper is anchored to your bed by a large flap that tucks under your mattress. The patented Airflow design of the hollow frame and breathable mesh fabric keep air circulating and baby cool.

compact view
The sleeper folds up nicely for convenient portability and compact storage.
A durable, cloth-covered U-shaped "wall" surrounds baby's head and torso to limit their movement and help prevent parents from rolling onto them. The soft head barrier reduces the risk of entrapment, while the foot wedge--which can be used as a sleep positioner in future months--ensures baby stays snugly inside the sleep area. The supportive bottom is a cozy resting spot with the included soft cover, vinyl covered mattress, and removable, machine washable mattress sheet.

Reassurance and safety weren't the only things The First Years folks thought of when creating this sleeper. Other benefits include its portability, a nightlight, and transitional use. For travel convenience, the Close & Secure folds up easily, is lightweight, and sports a carrying handle. Once baby has outgrown it, this feature means that it can also be compactly stored until needed again. A built-in nightlight allows you to quietly check on your bundle of joy during the night and provides enough illumination for feedings without waking your partner. When you are ready to transition baby to the crib, this sleeper can go with them--simply place it in the crib until baby is used to their new setting.

Two AA batteries are required for the nightlight.

Summary: Strong Vinyl Smell 2008-07-09
Comment: The product pictures do not show the LARGE plastic warning label that is sewn (can't rip off) on the blue flap. It smells very strong like vinyl plastic. Something that smells this BAD can't be good. Yikes! I used a Snuggle Nest with my first child and thought I could save a little $$ by getting this similar product for my second child. Bad idea.

Summary: It does have it's uses 2008-07-05
Comment: This was bought for us second hand by a well meaning friend. Unfortunately we can't cosleep due to a sleep disorder I live with that makes me unsafe. (Night Terrors) But we have gotten uses out of it. It's great when baby is fussy and we want him in the living room with us, we can just put him in the sleeper on the couch and we don't have to worry about him rolling off. We send it with him to grandma's house for the same purpose. Of course baby should still not be left unatended because when they decide to roll, some netting isn't going to stop them. But at least with this we can sit in our own chair in the same room instead of putting him in his crib.

Overall, it's a nice product, but I personally feel it's overpriced.

Summary: great product so far!!! 2008-06-23
Comment: This is a great product and I would reccommend to parents who like us have a small baby! Our daughter was a month early and very small and the co-sleeper is perfect for letting her stay in bed with us but we feel safe that we won't harm her. The nightlight is great.
Our baby is a month old now and I think she may outgrow this fairly soon if she gets any taller! She was born 18.5inches but I don't think this will last past her 2nd month.

Summary: a must have 2008-06-21
Comment: I found this and the boppy most useful in the early weeks.
I couldn't imagine putting baby girl in the bassinet fresh out
of the womb, so this worked perfectly until her legs got too long.

Summary: Size a Little Small 2008-06-17
Comment: There are some great things about this product and not so great things. First the product was great for traveling as it folded up into a nice size. The night light was the perfect amount of light as it was bright enough to see while nursing but not to bright as to wake up my husband. The down side to this product is the size. My child out grew it by around 5 weeks as he grew just too long so we didn't get a lot of use out of it. The other down size is that we have a queen bed. It was very tight having this in the bed. We barely had room to move around and slept on our side because that was basically all there was room for.
