Summary: A comprehensive review for the certification and recertification examinations for physician assistants 2010-02-06
Comment: Over this was a good study guide to prepare for the exam; you wont get a perfect score from using this book. but the questions are similar in style and difficuly level to those on the recert exam...this book will prepare you significantly enough to pass. i am currently not practicing x2 yrs, and used only this study guide to prepare, and did very well on the recert.

Summary: Great investment for the PANRE 2009-12-27
Comment: I thought this was a great review book for the PANRE. I've been a PA for 16 years, and I've always used Appleton & Lange, but the inaccurate information it contains now makes it a poor review book. This book has a great layout - it begins with a pretest to help identify your weak points. The next part is a thorough review, broken down by topic: i.e. Cardiology, Pulmonology, OB/GYN, etc. Also, the CD included with this edition (which is Mac-compatible) contains both a review and a post-test. The review portion on the CD gives you immediate feedback about incorrect answers, which is particularly helpful.

I just received my board results and I did great - passed in upper quarter of the pack! I'm sticking with this book's future editions for the recert exams down the road.

FYI: In addition to this book, I also bought Davis's Physician Assistant Exam Review: Focused Review for the Pance and Panre by Morton Diamond. It is 100% question-formatted, which I found to be tedious and frustrating. There is not much information in that book to help with your review - it's basically a "test" and nothing more. Don't waste your money on it.

Bottom line - if you're a practicing PA, trust your clinical knowledge and just get this book to review and you'll be fine.

Best of luck to all of you!!!!

Summary: Worth its weight! 2009-10-02
Comment: I have browsed through 2 other study resources for the PANRE and found this to be the most helpful. There are multipl gramatical erors throughout the the book, though none significant enough to change meaning of the underlying information. It is a quick and relatively thorough swim through the general subject matter needed to pass the PANRE and also for just a general review. I especially found the chapters on pediatrics and geriatrics helpful. Good Luck.

Comment: Good, however Appleton and Lange was better, please you can pay for the online review bank of > 1000 questions for $30 for 3 months.

Comment: If you MUST take the ridiculous, irrelevant, insulting and zebrafied PANRE, then this book along with the two Lange books (questions and review) is all you need. Having been a PA for 20 years and in a specialty field for 6, I find taking the PANRE to be a complete waste of time and money. But hey, I guess if you're a desk jockey for NCCPA somebody has to pay your salary since you're not actually practicing medicine. Maybe somebody should consider folks being certified for life after having passed 4 exams and seeing thousands of patients. Anyway, I guess this is supposed to be a book review. This one is good, appropriate depth for the exam, and also a good reference to have on the shelf. The Lange review book is a little shallow, but the book of questions gives great explanations. Spend the money to get all 3, plan on moderate study for about 2 months prior, and you'll pass.
