Congratulations, you're expecting a baby! What you may not be expecting is all of the requisite gear you "need" to look after your dear bundle. Fear not. Denise and Alan Fields, authors of Bridal Bargains, are here to tell you what's super and what's silly, and how to find it at the best price. You'll learn all about how (and where) to shop for a crib and dresser (including how to get European styling at reasonable prices), what you need in bedding and what can be skipped (a hint: no baby requires the $200 quilt!), which clothing brands are safest and least expensive, and how to shop for monitors, toys, car seats, strollers, books, videos, and more. The authors have field-tested every major brand (and several of the minor ones), and they provide star ratings and annotations at the end of every chapter. A helpful feature in each chapter called "Wastes of Money" will steer you away from $35 Baby Air Jordans and frilly diaper stackers that match your bedding. If that's not enough, they offer a money-back guarantee: If the book doesn't save you at least $250 in baby expenses, they'll refund the price of the book. Well researched and written in a witty and comfortable tone, Baby Bargains should be required reading for every safety- and money-conscious parent-to-be. --Rebecca A. Staffel Book Description
One of the little details of having a baby that is sometimes forgotten is the cost. In this comprehensive guide, Denise and Alan Fields show how to keep these costs manageable. This newly revised, updated and illustrated edition covers such topics as how to avoid wasting money with baby clothes, and which brands are best; the truth about strollers, and which are the wisest choices; the ten best baby gifts (along with the five worst); name-brand reviews of toys, monitors, high chairs, latch car seats, and diapers; and much more. Baby Bargains is the best-selling guide to the very best deals on all of baby's needs. It includes everything necessary to turn bewildered, cash-crunched parents into savvy bargain hunters.

Summary: Extremely useful 2008-07-22
Comment: As a first time expecting mother, I had no clue as to what I really needed. Also, this book helped me see that expensive strollers and highchairs are not necessarily the best quality.

Summary: Excellent resource! 2008-07-21
Comment: I referred to this book a TON while pregnant with our daughter! The reviews are realistic, unbiased and focused highly on the safety of the products being reviewed.
My sister in law was pregnant with her second child at the same time, and she referred to it often as well... it is not just for first time parents!

Summary: Great resource! 2008-07-20
Comment: This is a great resource. It takes time to get through it the first time, but I cross checked a lot of it online and with Consumer Reports and practically everything was accurate. Just watch out for the page numbers listed on the index. Now that I've read and chosen most of our registry items, I use this book to check on specific brands or items that I'm rethinking. The page numbers don't always match up, so you have to go a few pages back or forward to find the actual item. Not a big issue, but can be a pain sometimes. All in all, I highly recommend this book to anyone starting a first baby registry or supply list.

Summary: Great reviews and bargains 2008-07-17
Comment: Highly recommend this book for expecting parents. Best part is the book also reviews items for safety and use, not just price. The name is a bit misleading because the book will recommend more expensive items if it believes it is of better quality and a better value. Already saved hundreds when buying a crib and stroller and we will continue to use the book as a reference when we register for the baby shower. Book easily pays for itself!!

Summary: The Bible 2008-07-17
Comment: I call this book my baby Bible. I was SO overwhelmed when I got pregnant. I had no idea where to even start. This book was my map. It gave me ideas on what I needed and was an excellent source for reviews on all of the brands available. I used on-line reviews of products and Consumer Reports on-line as well, and between it all I am confident that I have gotten the best items for the best prices. I have impressed my friends who already have 1 or 2 kids with the thoroughness of my registry. It was all because of this book and some common sense. I bought this for my co-worker who is now pregnant, and she turned around and bought a copy for one of her friends. It has been invaluable to us.
