Congratulations, you're expecting a baby! What you may not be expecting is all of the requisite gear you "need" to look after your dear bundle. Fear not. Denise and Alan Fields, authors of Bridal Bargains, are here to tell you what's super and what's silly, and how to find it at the best price. You'll learn all about how (and where) to shop for a crib and dresser (including how to get European styling at reasonable prices), what you need in bedding and what can be skipped (a hint: no baby requires the $200 quilt!), which clothing brands are safest and least expensive, and how to shop for monitors, toys, car seats, strollers, books, videos, and more. The authors have field-tested every major brand (and several of the minor ones), and they provide star ratings and annotations at the end of every chapter. A helpful feature in each chapter called "Wastes of Money" will steer you away from $35 Baby Air Jordans and frilly diaper stackers that match your bedding. If that's not enough, they offer a money-back guarantee: If the book doesn't save you at least $250 in baby expenses, they'll refund the price of the book. Well researched and written in a witty and comfortable tone, Baby Bargains should be required reading for every safety- and money-conscious parent-to-be. --Rebecca A. Staffel Book Description
One of the little details of having a baby that is sometimes forgotten is the cost. In this comprehensive guide, Denise and Alan Fields show how to keep these costs manageable. This newly revised, updated and illustrated edition covers such topics as how to avoid wasting money with baby clothes, and which brands are best; the truth about strollers, and which are the wisest choices; the ten best baby gifts (along with the five worst); name-brand reviews of toys, monitors, high chairs, latch car seats, and diapers; and much more. Baby Bargains is the best-selling guide to the very best deals on all of baby's needs. It includes everything necessary to turn bewildered, cash-crunched parents into savvy bargain hunters.

Summary: Oh yeah :) 2008-06-28
Comment: This book is excellent. A friend of us got it for us and as first time parents it was very good to read the whole story right in one book. What is needed, what works for US and what is not needed etc. Perhaps some things leave questions in your mind, BUT if you are the first time parent. Pay the money and get it for yourself. If you are thinking about getting this as a gift for the first time parents, do what Nike does -> Just Do It i.e. buy the book.

Summary: Do not go baby shopping without this 2008-06-27
Comment: These people have done it again! An awesome reference book that informs about what to look for quality-wise, what's a rip off, and even what brands they recommend and why. I love it. A must read.

Summary: just what a new mom needs 2008-06-21
Comment: This book was reccomended to me and once I read through it, I realized how desperately I was looking for something like it! It's so helpful, organized, and no-nonsense. It tells you basically what's trendy- but total wastes of money, and where the best places are to buy bedding, gear, etc. I loved this book and have passed the word along to many expectant moms.

Summary: love the "sample registry," wish they reviewed changing tables 2008-06-17
Comment: Buying stuff for kids is completely overwhelming - way too much to know and compare! I used the sample registry in the back as a jumping-off point for building my own, it was a huge time saver.
I only wish they had reviewed some changing tables, or at least told me what to expect in a high-quality model vs. low-end. All they say is "use the top of a dresser, tables are a waste of money" but that doesn't help us. We got a changing table as a gift, and can't find any solid info about whether it's a good brand or not, even on their website/forum.
