Summary: how sugar inhibits weight loss 2010-03-10
Comment: Many people say "never eat anything white" and this book shows you why refined sugar is not beneficial to human bodies and how they are supposed to work.

Summary: Great book! 2009-12-19
Comment: I love the premise of this book. As a total sugar addict, I agree 100% that the only way out of this insanity is to give up sugar in all forms. For anyone who needs a good shot in the arm on how to eat healthy, this is a great book. Highly recommend it to all.

Summary: Living with Sugar Busters!! 2009-12-13
Comment: My doctor recommended Sugar Busters as a means to weight loss. I bought the book maybe a little skeptical but I have always trusted my doctor to guide me in the right direction.
My husband and I had quit smoking 9 months ago and we had each gained between 20 and 30lbs.

The Sugar Busters book explains the reasons for the diet. The research they have done and the benefits to our bodies of following the Sugar Buster diet.

There are shocking revelations in the book. Who knew white potatoes converted into 35-40 teaspoons of sugar? I'll never be able to eat another white potato again.

It's a great book and I highly recommend the diet.

Comment: When one really reads this and takes it in, it is realized how our food system is causing diabetes, everything has sugar, especially high frctose corn syrup added to it. I went through my food and saw that it really is so. If, as the book suggests, our pancreas does run out of insulin, because our ancestors did not have so much sugar in their diets thus the pancreas was never meant to handle such a huge amount of sugar as we have in our daily diets, then we should all from childhood refrain from so much sugar, it isn't the occasional cookie that gets us, but the constant onslaught of sugar in virtually everything processed or canned or made. Some form of sugar is usually ingredient number two in most things.

One must be vigilant in checking labels; Kosher foods, that I have bought do not have that sugar or trans fats. Organic seldom does either. It is hard to find foods that do not have sugar. A label might say no trans fats but on further inspection it stated there are hydrogenated fats, which in fact are trans fats. Labeling is currently misleading. This book delves into cholestrol problems and how they are exacerbated by higher than normal blood sugar.

Sugar is used in the body first to make glycogen, the storage molecule in the liver that is used for quick energy requirements, excess sugar is first utilized in the body and keeps fats from being utilized until it is used, so that fats circulate in the blood and that leads to the lining of the arteries accumulating fatty streaks and plaque.

This is the best medically based, written by physicians, book that makes a great deal of sense and is written in language that is understandable to all.

There is much more in this book. My physician recommended it. I have bought one for each of my children. I recommend it highly.

Summary: Good Common Sense Advice On How To Eat Healthy And Lose Weight 2009-09-22
Comment: I have never been a big fan of diets. But, on the recommendation of my doctor, I decided to check out this book. The truth is I am really impressed by it. It's not some kind of fad diet that asks you to follow a strict program of eating only certain foods. But rather more like common sense advice on how to eat healthy and lose weight at the same time.

The basic idea is that American society has become riddled with obesity largely because people have stopped eating natural foods and instead eat processed foods, especially those with high levels of refined sugar. It gives advice on what foods to eat, such as fruits, vegetables, lean meats, whole wheat bread and pasta, etc. while avoiding too many sweets, refined flour and a few other things.

It's really about returning to the diet that has sustained humanity over the ages and getting away from the highly processed foods that we have come to depend on. To me this is good advice and something I feel will enable me to achieve better health and weight loss over the long term. Recommended!
