Summary: No remorse --- The Perfect MP3-Capable CD-Player. 2006-07-04
Comment: I bought this player as an impulse buy. I was expecting to take it back until the unexpected thing occurred: it CAN read UDF-1.50-formatted CD-RWs!! (such as formatted using DirectCD or InCD). So I dragged and dropped a bunch more MP3s on it and decided to keep it.
I never installed the SonicStage software. I'm more of an "ACME setup" kinda person.
I dunno about the poster below who said this player is only good for "folk music." He must have had poor headphones, couldn't figure out the equalizer, or he's already lost half of his hearing. However, I never used the included headphones--I gave them to my nephew. I use my $50 puffy KOSS deejay-style headphones with it at home and work, and the overall dynamics (deep bass and high treble) are superb, and I still don't have the bass all the way up. Also, I must TURN OFF the parametric equalizer when hooking this to a car stereo or home system because the bass is just too much.
Battery operation is great. I've used up only one set of batteries so far on, I'm approximating here, 30+ hours of playtime on Duracell. The battery indicator is accurate.
I've made it skip only once--while driving: slamming on my brakes to avoid an accident--it took a hard dive to the floorboard.
The only thing missing is, like many others complained about, an LCD backlight. But, there's never such thing as a "perfect" consumer device. I don't have many issues with the buttons--I tend to just turn it on and let it run in random/shuffle mode. It's my very own little radio station.
I definitely recommend it. ;-D

Summary: an excellent cd/mp3 player 2005-07-10
Comment: for awhile i was looking to replace my big and bulky sony sports walkman, its still in excellent shape but i just wanted something lighter and more compact. regardless of what anyone says i stick by sony with their walkmans because i haven't had a single problem with any of them, and the d-ne300 is no exception.
for the price, nothing really comes close to this great mp3/cd player. personally, i just bought it to play cds, but the mp3 options is there (although i'm told the software included with this is horrid). the player itself isn't much wider than a cd, its also very light, i hardly even notice its there when i have it in my pocket.
the headphones that come with it are decent, but you'll probably want to get better ones if you plan to use this often, as the headphones are kind of uncomfortable (to me) and the sound isn't the greatest. just FYI, this player doesn't support headphones with a remote, so keep that in mind!
the battery life on this is amazing. as i said, i only use this to play cds, so i get around 45-50 hours of play from 2 AAs, but you can get up to 80 if you use it for mp3s. a feature i really liked about this is that the batteries are stored inside, so if you accidentaly drop it, they won't pop out and go all over the place. i would note however that when you do replace the batteries, all the settings you have on the player will be erased (i.e. play modes, beep on/off, ect.)
the g-protection is also excellent. i've had this player for at least a year and it hasn't skipped once. granted with the technology these days, it shouldn't anyways, but its still nice to know.
i do have a few complaints with it though. first, the megabass option isn't on here at all. instead, the d-ne300 is equipped with an equalizer. the problem is that it makes little to no difference for the music. thankfully, there is an option that lets you select different "sounds" for the type of music you're playing (i.e. heavy, soft, classic).
another complaint is that there is NO backlit screen. while usually i wouldn't complain about such a thing, the screen itself is orange, and its very difficult to read in bright sunlight or at nightime.
my last complaint is the button layout. i do like how simple the player looks, but the center peice is somewhat difficult to navigate around. the play/pause button is in the center, with the track select buttons on the left and right, and navigation arrows up and down. the problem is that they're so close together that i occasionally press the wrong button.
all in all this is an excellent portable walkman for the price. it has amazing battery life, its light and compact, and the features simply outweigh most of its competition.

Summary: my best decision ever, Go Sony! 2005-02-19
Comment: all i can say is i love it, thought i wish i had bought the d-ne400 because i wanted to listen to fm and am. Other than that it perfect. This is my first cd player ever and it the best decision anyone can make. i have 6 disk, each with 490 songs on it, and i was going for an ipod. Well i have a lot of good experience with sony. Their product are top notch, and last a long time. Well it doesn't have a backlit which will increase the battery hour, but their should be a button where you can press the backlit so you can see in the dark, and turn off when you don't need it. And one more thing, without the remote, it really hard, it hard to always have to press the button on the cd player to stop, and it especially hard in school. i do wish it came with a remote and those nice psyc h-ear earplug. other than that it perfect.
i bought the psyc cd player but then return it for this one, cuz it had mp3.
i hope this help, if you need a good mp3 player I suggest buying this one, you don't even need to research and the manual that come with it is accurate. I haven't try the sonic stage software yet but i don't need to, i just burrow my friend cd and use the computer roxio cd burner and in about 6 min it done. 6 min for 490 songs is simply AMAZING!
so there you have it, what are you still doing here, go out there and get this player, o and be sure to buy the warrantly. I got my at sears and play $7.80 for the warrantly for 2 years, so i have notting to worry about. One last thing the g-protection really work, i recommend using the g1 instead of g2 because the music is enchance and is really good for jogging around.
i hope this help, btw thankyou amazon reviewer for helping me make a great decison in the sony psyc atrac d-ne300!

Summary: best one 2005-01-29
Comment: i got this player around 2 month back. its the best player. here are few pro and cons
pro:
1. can play mp3(burned even in data format instead of usual mp3), mp3 playlists, atrac and normal cd
2. the best feature is ID3 tagging. u can view the song title, singer name, folder name etc.
3. u can bookmark, program ur songs in ur favourite order
4. the best battery life i have ever seen(around 45 hours for normal cd, 65 hour for mp3, 85 hour for atrac).
5.various sound modes with personal prefrence option
6. g protection function really works. u will never feel jerks in the songs when u r jogging.
7. u can adjust timer from 1 to 99min and also can play seamless.
cons::
1. no backflash light for lcd.
2. memory goes away(ie. bookmarks, prog etc) when u change the battery.
3. i dont like the headphones provided with the player. so i purchased new ear phone(sony mjr 10). that cost me extra 10 bugs.
4. if u live in areas where the temperature goes beyond -20 C. then the LCD causes some problem. whenever u go for walk, all the character on lcd goes fainter and fainter. player still works but u cannot see ur songs.

Summary: Sony LIES 2005-01-08
Comment: I'm so tired of these companies giving us a bunch of unnecessary tricks without the basics.
Mp3, attrac3, who gives a #$@!. Where's the digital megabass that the manufacturer claims is there? Or did you mean the crappy equalizer.
This discman is only good if you listen to folk music all day. Any hard rock, funk, hip hop, or dance that requires some bass will sound naked on this discman.
BEWARE music lovers before you waste $65.
