Product Review
Product Description
Sure, its compact satellites and gnarly subwoofer are good-looking. But listen to the VS3251, and you'll forget about looks. This system rocks! You can get awesome 6-channel surround sound from a PC or game console. But you can also plug in your iPod or DVD player and get 70 watts of full-bodied, hard-charging stereo. And it includes a wireless remote. This is a romping good deal!

Summary: Great speakers 2009-09-11
Comment: Sound quality is great, the bass is alright (ideal for college students in dorms... but will still hit the neighbors, haha)

The satellite speakers could be better quality, but the sound is alright...

durability is ok, but you wont be moving them around that much, so mount them and it will be all ok.

Summary: Dirt Cheap 5.1 system but sub-par sound quality. 2009-04-19
Comment: I got these speakers from a well known tech deal site for about 1/4 of what Amazon marketplace is currently charging for them so I cannot attest to the value you get at the Amazon price.

However, if you can get these on sale they are a solid value, but in the end I got the feeling I should have spent a bit more money and gotten a better product.

First off the packaging came missing the black cable! That's just inexcusable sloppiness.

After I got everything out of the excessive plastic wrapping I was easily able to mount the speakers on my walls using push pins. The speakers are so light that the easily mount with the pins.

Of course the reason they are so light is that they don't have much in the way of quality magnets! And that means poor sound quality, especially in the mid-range.

The sub is just too small to get any sort of thumping base going, although it does add a nice "growl" to movies and games. It's fun getting in a pickup truck in GTA IV and hearing the engine roar to life.

Everything is controlled through the remote, which makes me worry if I lose it or it breaks; however, the remote itself is intuitive and allows for easy changes to the levels the sub, front, and back speakers. This is nice because no two surround sound environments are the same, and tweaking is necessary.

All in all this is a decent product (provided you get it at the steep discount) but if you are expecting the sound quality of even a midrange shelf system you are out of luck. This system gets plenty loud and it's great being surrounded by sound, but listening to music on this system at normal levels is not that enjoyable. Tweaking your EQ settings helps, but only so much.

Comment: Got it cheap @ buy.com for [...] shipped. One check of the price elsewhere and I am sold.

The good: Sound is very clean, does not distort when I turn up the volume, pretty amazing for such small satellite speakers (A lot better than my Yamaha TSS-1 speakers). Satellite speakers are shielded. The bass is powerful. Built quality is good. Wires are color-coded for easy installation. Speakers use regular speaker wires, not RCA. So, if you do not like the speakers, you can use your own. It comes with a wired infrared eye extender. That way, you can play hide and seek with the subwoofer and still be able to control it all with your wireless remote. Very thoughtful and useful. Remote has all the controls necessary (power, input select, center/rear/subwoofer level control, and volume control. Did I mention I got it for [...]

The bad: Compare to my 5 years old Yamaha TSS-1, it lacks Dolby decoding, lack optical inputs, and the subwoofer is NOT shielded. I was shocked to see that on the manual. So keep at least 2 feet away from any other powered components. If you are used to your much bigger/heavier home entertainment subwoofers, this one will not impress. But it provides plenty of low end vibrations.

Overall, I am very happy. This will do well as my laptop sound system, while my Yamaha faithfully serve my desktop PC.
