Summary: No way to configure the modem 2009-06-03
Comment: I bought this new for a Comcast Cable Internet connection. It came with a CD of drivers for the USB connection to a computer (from 2004), a printed setup manual, and the hardware with cables. I registered online and found new drivers (from 2007) so I downloaded them. However, I have not been able to uninstall the previous drivers, even after taking advanced steps to delete the keys from the registry that linksys failed to remove after uninstalling. Therefore, I cannot install the new drivers. Also, there is NO WAY TO CONFIGURE THIS MODEM. It does not have a web interface or any software that allows you to configure anything. The only way to use this modem is to plug it in and hope that everything works by default. You can do a hard reset by holding the power button for a long time, but you will never be able to change any of the settings.
I think un-configurable hardware is a waste of money.

Summary: Useless to me, but may not be to you. 2009-06-02
Comment: My ISP (AT&T) customer help line flat out refused to help me, by saying: "We do not support this modem. Never have and never will." I sarcastically asked them what the "S" in ISP stood for, and they were not amused.
I then tried tech support at Linksys and they were amused...that I had a MAC. The accompanying CD-ROM instructions were clearly labeled for Windows only. If you have AT&T or iMAC don't waste your time with this modem. I got an Actiontec GT701R and it has been great. It installs effortlessly on a MAC, the only problem I had was wading through 103 pages of instructions to install it on Windows, when suddenly on the last page of the instruction booklet it says: "For MAC users you only have to push one button." viola! I should have read the instruction booklet backwards and could have saved over an hour.

Summary: broadband cable modem 2009-05-15
Comment: I purchased this cable modem Christmas Eve from Walmart at a very good
price. It was installed to Optimum Online from Cablevision on 05/13/09.
Runs very cool, boots in about a minute. Like it says in the documenta-
tion, call your ISP and give them the MAC address to 'provision' modem
on their server to connect service, unless you need physical install of
coaxial RG6U cable by the cable company. Then they'll do it all.
Connection speed is excellent, uptime 100% in the limited time of use.
I recommend using this modem with a router, and it has a USB 2.0 port
for other devices including computers. I installed only a router behind
it, and did not need the installation disk, not using the USB 2.0 port.
See my review for TRENDnet TW100-BRF114 firewall router for more info.
I will install a LAN VoIP gateway to add Optimum Voice service, likely
using a TRENDnet or HP multiport managed switch to maximize traffic flow
and not tank my connection with the VoIP hogging the bandwidth.
I can depower my router, and reboot it, without having to reboot modem,
a very nice 'hot swap' kind of PnP. Buy this modem and get better VoIP
using a gateway on your network, instead of a modem with VoIP built-in.
Then you're not dependent on a single unit for total service should one
go down, you still have the other services available. Many VoIP gateways
can connect directly to this cable modem if your router goes down. If a
VoIP gateway goes down, you still have your broadband ISP connection!

Summary: cable modem 2009-04-12
Comment: The modem works fine (just installed last week). I know little about these things, but it apparently also includes a router function, which I may never use but is a nice bonus if I should need one. The power connector thing didn't seem to work when the Comcast tech assistance person was leading me through the "provision" procedure, but I still had my old power connector and that worked fine with the new modem. The item was shipped promptly and arrived in excellent condition.

Summary: Good priduct 2009-03-30
Comment: Recently made a huge mistake a left my window open when I left to go to the store. It ended up raining and water blew in and got all over my last router, so I ordered this one since it was the same as the one I had before and I have never had any problem with it and would recommend it to everyone.
