Summary: A very good value to upgrade stock speakers 2010-03-09
Comment: Installed these in the doors of a 2007 ford expedition XLT. Easy drop in replacement with no modifications needed.

Using a kenwood DVD head unit and a small jvc 2 channel amp (60 watts per channel) to run the speakers. Sound is excellent and using an amp makes a big difference. Lows are very tight and mid-range is good. The highs are a bit muted but that can be adjusted for using your sound control. With just a bit of adjustment, they sound excellent.

I kept the door tweeters and wired in bass blockers (stinger) to protect them. Note, the filter for the tweeters is wired directly into the door speaker. If you remove the door speaker, you must have something in-line to protect the tweeters (filter cap/bass blocker) or else they will be toast.

For $140 total (amp+speakers+bass blockers), this made a major difference in the sound. Very good, economical upgrade.

Summary: Sounds good 2010-02-20
Comment: Hooked these up in my 2005 Focus. Sounds great with my Sony deck. Easy to install once you get the door off (not that hard). Just had to strip a few wires. A lot more powerful than stock (one of which was blow thus the purchase of these).

Summary: Good but not great 2010-02-15
Comment: Purchased two pairs of these speakers to replace the factory ones in my 08 F250. Sound is much improved from stock but not quite as "powerful" as I expected from Pioneer. Good speaker just not great.

Summary: Good but not great 2010-02-03
Comment: I purchased these speakers from Walmart for more than I could have gotten them from Amazon. I was hoping they would be a significant upgrade in all areas compared to my stock 10 year old speakers. They are a dramatic improvement over the stocks ability to produce mids and highs but they are somewhat lacking when it comes to the low end. I do not have these powered by an amp, but they are hooked up to an aftermarket Kenwood head unit pushing out 22watts RMS. I only purchased one pair and put them in the front doors and left the stock factory speakers in the rear doors. This let me do some pretty good comparisons. The clarity of the highs is amazing in comparison but it actually seems like the bass is less than what the stock speakers are putting out. It is more defined in some ways, but definately does not hit as hard on the lows. I even thought maybe they needed a breakin period of about 20 hrs, but they lows actually seem to have gotten worse over the 3 weeks I've owned them. It's not non-existant just a bit lacking.

Perhaps if they had more power going to them they would produce better lows, but if you just powering these with the head unit don't expect much on the low end. I've installed a powered sub since then and they do what I need them to do (produce great highs and mids) so I'm satisfied, but I would not count on these producing much low end without being powered by an amp. They also seem to distort when you crank the bass up and turn up the volume. I will be purchasing another pair from Amazon for the rear doors of my Ford Focus. For the price it's hard to beat these.

Summary: Great speakers! 2010-01-09
Comment: Bought these to complement the 6x9" 3-way units I put in the rear deck of my Mazda 626, and the they're just as good as their slightly larger brethren. Tight bass, great highs, and natural mids. I was able to crank my old stereo unit up without any distortion (ignoring the rattling of door panels and windows ;] ), can't wait to see how they perform with the new stereo head unit.

As a note though, these do not come with baffles! Why is this a problem? Because going through heavy rain or a car wash sends a cascade of water down through the inside of your doors, and if the speaker compartment isn't separated you run the risk of getting these things soaked which could result in electrical problems. This is easily fixed however by going to the nearest auto parts store or even Walmart and buying some plastic or foam baffles for a few bucks. This is of course assuming these are going into the doors, if not then you've got nothing to worry about.
