Summary: keeps ice in control 2008-02-29
Comment: We had aggregate stairs and landing installed in the front many years ago and then discovered you cannot use salt or any salt products on the stairs during our Chicago winters. I have used bare ground on the stairs for years. No, it doesn't prevent you from having to shovel but it does help prevent ice from forming on the stone when applied according to directions. It is expensive but I only use it on the stairs, everything else we salt.

Summary: The best de-icer ever 2008-01-27
Comment: We live in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York -- which is another way of saying "Canada" -- and this product is our miracle drug for treating snow and ice. If you get it down before the snow starts, it keeps ice from forming. Reapplication between shoveling/snow-blowing maintains safe footing on our steps and steep driveway. Best of all, it is an organic by-product of distilling vodka and thus is absolutely safe for pets and plants. Conventional salt-based de-icers slowly eat away wooden decking and even hardscape like asphalt and concrete; not Bare Ground. Best of all, it doesn't damage floors and rugs when, inevitably, it gets tracked inside. Bare Ground isn't cheap, but there is nothing better or safer for entrances and other areas where protection matters as much as de-icing.

Summary: Not worth the money. 2007-12-13
Comment: I saw this in a magazine and searched for a better price, which I found on Amazon. This stuff worked to melt the ice that was on my driveway, but did not live up to the "lasts for 2 weeks" ad. I have a 3 car garage and a driveway to match. I used the entire bottle on the driveway the first day before snow was perdicted. We only had an inch of snow and this did not work as advertised. I still had to shovel the driveway. Plus as a bonus I now have a nasty dark stain all over the concrete. The manufacturer said the stain will wash away with "time". I will not be ordering this again.

Summary: Works OK 2007-02-20
Comment: Keeps snow from packing down and sticking but you still need to shovel or sweep to remove al but very small amounts. Needs to be applied 1 to 2 hours before the snow ideally.
