Summary: Owned for Yrs. Best Bird Feeder Ever 2008-04-11
Comment: I've owned three of these feeders for several years and LOVE them. The squirrels know it's useless to try, and thus stay off. The birds love it and the Cardinals do use it with the Cardinal ring attached.
Some have complained about frustrated squirrels chewing through the ring. This has happened to me several times and Brome always replaces them free of charge! Top rate company with a top rate product.
P.S. I just placed a replacement order and was informed that they are working on a new design for the ring.

Summary: Does what it says 2008-03-14
Comment: I live in Texas and my tray feeder was getting emptied by 20 or more dove in a single day, plus a ton of spillage, so I needed something to deter the larger birds. This thing works. Finches, mockingbirds, cardinals, and chickadees so far this spring. Dove still feed on the ground underneath the feeder and pick up the scraps that fall to the ground.
Can't speak to the "squirrel-proofness" because I have mine on a baffled pole, so they can't even get to it to try.
Recommend this feeder without hesitation.

Summary: best bird feeder ever 2008-01-18
Comment: Although my well fed squirrels chewed up the cardinal ring, it still works just fine. My squirrels must sit on the ground and get the seed kicked out by the birds instead of eating a feeder full a day, all are happy!!!

Comment: The birds don't like it at all....I saw about four just sit at the feeder and try to figure out what they were supposed to do. I think one of the birds actually flipped me off for getting this. If you don't tighten the lid and bottom secure enough the bird seed will spill ALL over your floor, and it's amazing how quickly a full bird feeder will empty on the ground. I would have to say that I can't see how a squirrel would get to the food...I will say that about it. But what good is it if the birds don't get to it either? I'll probably go back to one of the others and just feed the squirrels with the birds.

Comment: This is my second cardinal ring bird feeder that keeps the squirrels away. It really does work. In addition, it was shiped very quickly.
