Product Description
The Amazing Handheld Bug Zapper terminates insects without using toxins! Child safety switch, not a toy, two AA batteries included, a long-standing best seller. Handheld bug zapper kills insects on contact Environmentally safer alternative to insect sprays Current runs through bug zapper's net upon activation Two-button activation switch for child safety Runs on two AA batteries (included) Amazon.com Review
Keep the bugs away from your next barbecue without resorting to unsafe insect sprays. Designed on the premise of a flyswatter, this handheld bug zapper is shaped like a tennis racket and kills insects on contact via an electric current when they touch the surface of the "net." The zapper operates on two AA batteries and, for safety, activates when you simultaneously press the two buttons on its handle. The bug zapper is safe for either indoor or outdoor use; however, people should exercise caution when the zapper is activated as it will cause a shock. --Cristina Vaamonde

Summary: No safety screen means high kill ratio 2008-10-02
Comment: We've owned several models of this type of bug zapper over the years. All but the oldest have safety screens to keep you from touching the electric wires. Alas, the safety screens also keep BUGS from touching the electric wires. Which is why I went nuts and bought several of this particular model. We are still working out the coordination required to press two buttons at once when swinging at an offending insect, a feature not mentioned in the product description. But it's worth it to hear that satisfying POP! as an annoying fly gets zapped.
I have not yet found out if this model is capable of the "perfect storm" moment when under the right conditions a fly explodes in a flash of blue flame. That and the two-button control is why I refrained from the five-star rating.

Summary: A PIECE OF USELESS JUNK! 2008-09-28
Comment: I purchased this product, opened the package, inserted the batteries, and NADA . . . NOTHING . . . DID NOT WORK AT ALL! So typical of the junk that comes in from China and other foreign countries. I returned this product to Amazon.com a number of weeks ago and as yet have not seen any credit issued to my card for the return of this product.

Summary: The horizontal-wire configuration pictured here is the best 2008-09-28
Comment: We have horses, and use fry predators, fly traps, and natural fly sprays to good effect. Still, some always survive to get into the house, and this is the only 100% effective way to kill any type of insect known to man-- flying or crawling, instantly (and in Arizona we've got some whoppers). For best results, don't use as a swatter (you'll miss, and you'll break it). For flying insects, you can zap them in mid-air, but this takes an expert user (e.g., me :-). Instead, wait until they land then (a) note the direction of the brightest light source (b) slowly lower the zapper over the bug perpendicular to the light so that no shadows move over the bug's eyes (c) when you get on top of the bug, it will fly up into the grid and ZAP they are done. I've killed flys, swarms of hornets, spiders, huge beetles, and bees with this. There is no bug that it cannot kill instantly, and all with a 9V battery. We keep a half-dozen on hand (two for killing any bug, and the rest for gifts to friends that clamor for one themselves ;-)

Summary: Swat team 2008-09-09
Comment: Works as advertised - just got a big one tonight - but the face could be larger making it easier to swat fast flying things. Face size is why I didn't give it the full 5 star treatment.

Comment: I bought it as a gift because we have one and find it very useful.
