Many modern homes have up-to-date clocks or mini weather stations that depend on radio-transmitted data to stay calibrated and current. The La Crosse TX4U works outdoors by sensing temperature and humidity and transmitting that information to an indoor station. It can transmit to a base up to 80 feet away. The TX4U can be added to augment information coming to La Crosse units already in operation. Remove batteries from base units first and activate sensors; then replace batteries in base units and press no buttons until a display appears. Multiple sensors can be assigned a number so that it will be clear which information from which sensor is displayed. The TX4U operates on two AA batteries. Its housings are made of durable, neutral-tone plastic. The sensor works with all La Crosse weather clocks and stations except the Professional Weather Center Series: WS-2010, WS-2210, WS-2310, WS-2315 and WS-2510. For options in wall mounting, two screws and screw anchors and a strong adhesive tape are included. The TX4U measures 2-1/2 by 3 by 4-3/4 inches. La Crosse provides a one-year limited warranty on its sensors. Each sensor comes with a detailed instruction sheet. --Garland Withers

Summary: Accurate, but for short distance 2008-06-02
Comment: Ease to set up to the weather station, but with two brick walls between transmitter and receiver, do not reach 30 feet!

Summary: My opinion is that it is cheaply made, poorly designed, complicated to set up, junk. 2007-12-31
Comment: I got one of these for Christmas from my wife. This is a toy at best. It was awkward to set up and lasted two days. It is cheaply made and not user friendly at all. I can't believe that someone would sell such a product. This is my opinion of the whole weather station from LaCrosse. I have worked in electronics as an Field Service Engineer for over 25 years, so I understand electronic equipment. Based on the "toy" weather station that I had, I would not spend my money on any of their products. They may make good products, but my first experience with LaCrosse Technology was not good at all. It is on it's way back to Sam's Club. The TX4U listed on this page is the part that failed, that is why I am posting here.

Summary: Only works for so long! 2007-12-26
Comment: I purchased this product brand new at Christmas of 2006. It came new in the package with my new weather station. I also purchased one for my nephew. I carefully placed the sensor outside. Hidden from direct sunlight and protected from rain. About July of 2007, the sensor stopped working. At first I thought it was the weather station that stopped reading the sensor. I replaced the batteries in both the sensor and the weather station. Still nothing! Today is Christmas Day of 2007, My nephew was over the house and I asked him about his weather station. He replied..."the sensor stopped working a few months ago." I said..."maybe it got wet". He said..."no, it was on a back porch away from any possible water." It appears to me that these sensors might not work for a very long time. They are quite expensive if you have to replace them every six months. Now, there are new sensorless weather stations on the market that pick up transmitted signals that can give you all the same information.
