Summary: Great tool for the weekend-gardener 2008-06-10
Comment: I just got this the other day and I've already put it into action. The knife looks pretty pathetic in the images on Amazon, but in reality it's sharp and very effective. The pruning shears are also excellent with a very good spring. In short, this tool has the quality you'd expect from Leatherman.
I also want to praise Amazon's delivery. I bought the tool with the Super Saver delivery option and they turned up just three days later.
Only one downside - they came with the wrong instructions. I got the "Vista" instructions by mistake. Of course it's just a couple of clicks to download the right ones from the Leatherman site.

Summary: very handy for gardening and camping 2008-06-09
Comment: I had real reservations about buying this tool. After all, the most expensive pruner at the natons biggest retailer is only about $25. But, I have to say I'm pleased. The pruners work well. I use the saw often. The knife blade is handy for opening bags of sod, or whatever. I can see where the screwdriver bits would be handy in a pinch, but I use those three things almost every time. The weeder is the only one I don't have much use for. With the saw, I even leave the handle extended (like this ___---~~~) and it works very nicely. Probably not how you should use it but it seems to work excellently.
In fact, I even took it camping. It was great for little projects! Cutting medium sized sticks for firewood, whittling wood when practicing making a "figure 4" trap, etc.
So, I'm very happy with it.
However, unlike other leathermans, it is MUCH more prone to getting dirty (obviously). I had to buy a special screwdriver so I could clean it, one like this one B001A89VGA (search for that). Anyway, if you are careful you won't need it, but I tend to be sloppy sometimes.

Summary: Not for the daily gardener 2008-06-04
Comment: I purchased this item recently...and returned it right away. While Leatherman offers excellent Multitools, this gardening tool is rather pathetic for anything other than extremely light use. I am an avid city gardener and purchased this product thinking I could have an all-in-one tool as I do my daily garden maintenance. However, none of the tools really measure up for any significant use. The pruners are average at best, much better bi-pass pruners can be had for less with much more comfortable handles (I concur with many of the other reviewers, the handles are terrible...not just uncomfortable, but not nearly strong enough for the job), the weeding tool is a joke! It's not long enough to pull weeds unless you practically bury the handle in the ground...and then you'd have dirt clogging up the mechanics of the tool. The saw is completely impractical, and the other tools are hardly worth mentioning. Again, I normally like Leatherman tools, my husband cannot be found without his multitool on his belt, but this simply is not up to the task of serious gardening. If all you do is EXTREMELY light work and you like gadgets, then by all means give it a whirl. However, if you are looking for useable tools in the garden, I suggest looking elsewhere.

Summary: Blade is self destructing 2008-05-21
Comment: I am a landscaper. I use a lot of hand pruners. I thought it would be nice to have a small handy unit like this one. It has not been used for over 10 minutes total (used 3 different times) and that was just to trim some dead ends off of small shrubs. It was very sharp - impressive. The first time I used it, it was fine. The next time I used it, it seemed to catch a bit. The third time I could hardly get it to cut and had a difficult time getting it to fold up completely to put in sheath. The problem - the sharp blade appears to be biting into the anvil and the steel might be soft enough that it is causing nicks that then catch on the anvil. There are 2 spots on the blade where this has happened. If I had cut wire, dropped it, or misshandled it in some way it would be understandable, but this has not been the case. I have never ever had this happen to a hand pruner before. I do not know if it is a bad design because of the angle of the blade, imperfections in the anvil or too soft a steel in the blade ... but this is bad. Result - I am sending the tool in for warranty. My preferrence is for them to replace it. If the next one is OK then it was that particular tool that was BAD! This should not happen with a tool that costs as much as a Leatherman. This was my first Leatherman. If I have similar problems with the next one it will be my last. I am told it can take up to 3 weeks on the turn around. My spring season will be gone by then!

Summary: Great little, yellow, power house. 2008-04-27
Comment: When I first received my Leatherman I was not sure how well it would perform. It is smaller than any other tree lopper that I have used before. I would classify it as a small hand lopper. It is small enough to comfortably place in a tool belt or attach to your belt using the included belt carrier. It seems to work on branches up to 1/2" as long as you know how to use them correctly. If you don't know what you are doing any tree lopper will bind and not give a clean cut. The hardest wood it was used on is an Ash tree that needed some pruning of low branches. The 1/2" inch diameter branches where the most I could easily cut on the ash. Very sharp and very clean cutting. It works great for the more fine to medium trimming of tree branches, shrubs and rose bushes. It also works great for trimming in places where the larger 24" or 36 " tree loppers are a little ackward and tough to menuver between branches. My opinion is a great addition for the finer trimming and for the average home gardener. But if you work with trees, hardwoods especially like oak, walnut, etc., and need to lop off 1/2" or larger branches you will either need a saw or the Leatherman's big brother, lopper (24" or 36"). Now you say there is a saw included...well have you ever tried to cut a branch with a 3" saw that has two movable handles?
