Summary: This Item Really Works ! ! ! 2008-12-04
Comment: I have used this product for years, it works so well. I had a rat problem and tried normal snap traps, glue traps, cages, poison and even electric shock boxes to get rid of my rat problem. I have to say that my favorite product was this tomcat snap trap. I have had rats that were able to escape the other normal snap traps and eat the bait but they never ever escaped this tomcat trap. The bait is in the middle and the minute they move that board it snaps like a cats claw on their head. A purposely snapped a brand new trap on my hand to see how strong the grip was and to be sure that my kids wouldn't be harmed if they got their hands on it. It has a powerful grip that I have never found a single rat to escape from and although it will bruise your childs hand a little if they put their hand in there, it will not really do any long term damage. We put peanut butter in the small cup to bait our trap and within 15 minutes we were catching rats. We searched our home for any holes they were making to get in and plugged them all up and the tomcat rat trap did the rest to kill all of the rats in our home that we had been battling for years. We are now rat free and intend to stay that way.
I'm not saying that they other products were completely ineffective but this trap caught more rats and mice than anything else. It is also easy to get rid of the rat because unlike the regular trap you have to open the medal bar from the front and this trap you grab from the back and hold the rat over a trash bin and clamp the back ends together to release. Also to set the trap I would just put it on the ground step on the back and it was set. I never had to worry about the medal bar snapping on my hand because this trap is so easy to set and it's all from the back not in the front. You've got to try this product. The only negative thing is that because it acts like a cats claw it will sometimes cause blood to go on your floor so put newspaper under the trap. Rats are very smart and when you put something new they often stay away from it for a while so don't try to move it if you don't see a catch for a few days. Just give it some time. In some areas of our home it took a few days but with the peanut butter for bait we usually caught something in about 15 minutes of setting the trap.

Summary: Tom Cat traps SUCK!! 2008-11-04
Comment: Every Tomcat product I have bought either did not work or was defective!! I guess they don't have good quality control or they are just content on selling garbage to unsuspecting consumers. The Snap Traps I bought for mice did not work at all, they got the food and the traps were never tripped. I just recently bought their traditional rat traps - two of them in the pack were installed backwards - the spring bar was loaded to the opposite end of the bate plate. I had to remove the spring bar and reinstall it the other way around to work properly. Total garbage - I have never experienced this with other manufactures. I even tried out the live catch boxes and they were not designed well either - the mouse was able to eat the bait and get back through the trap door. Seems to be that they are purposely making these products as cheap as possible, betting on the fact that once you take it home, you won't bother to bring it back for a refund and just throw their garbage product in the trash like I did. Don't waste your time.

Summary: This thing works! 2008-08-21
Comment: I am having a chipmunk problem in my garden. I was using old fashioned rat traps and they kept getting licked clean. Its impossible for the victim to lick this bait without setting it off. I actually got a skunk last night. I'm not out to get anything other than chipmunks, and luckily, the skunk was able to get itself out of the trap. Its also reusable, which is nice.

Summary: Great Trap for Ground Squirrels too! 2008-07-07
Comment: Had 5 ground squirrels making tunnels in my backyard. Bought two tomcats and had all five in a day and a half. Used peanut butter. Trap is easy to bait and set - but when they get snapped they don't get out. Had no misfires. Think they were waitng in line to enjoy their "treat".

Summary: Great traps 2008-04-18
Comment: I switched over to these traps several years ago and I think they are great!
Actually, snap traps are MOST effective when they catch the prey across the back, compressing the chest and causing the pest to suffocate quickly. These traps are every bit as effective in this regard as the traditional snap traps. Catching by the neck in a steel wire trap can create a mess -- I've never had that problem with these.
In order to ensure a clean kill I put the bait as far back into the trap as possible, so the pest has to reach well into the trap.
Bottom line, you can bait these wherever it's convenient, put them in place, and THEN set them -- you don't have to handle a "set" trap. It's the safest most effective trap I've ever used.
