This Porter-Cable generator is powered by 20 HP Honda GX620 twin cylinder OHV engine. | The Porter-Cable 10,000-watt generator features an easy-start electric start (a 12-volt 450 CCA battery is included) and advanced alternator design with no brushes to replace. Low-oil protection and pressure lubrication keeps the engine maintained for optimal performance, and a spin-on oil filter allows for easy maintenance. Summary: Best Farm Generator 2008-06-02
Comment: I purchased this generator for my farm. So far it has proven outstanding when called on. I have my well, barn, pasture electric, refridgeration, etc. on it and it performed like a champ. Last winter we were one of the only homes with almost full power after an ice storm, and I attribute this to Honda technology. Had all the neighbors over for breakfast, since most of them did not have power to cook.

Summary: Ominous start 2007-01-05
Comment: I ordered the unit and it took 26 days to arrive. Assembly was straightforward and the fit and finish was fine. Hooked the unit up to a manual switch and it was underpowered for the house. After much effort, it was clear that the generator pumped out a solid 100 volts ac, not 120. It couldn't even run a handtool at full power. HMMM.... 10,000 watts, eh? Next came Porter Cable NATIONAL service. It took them 48 hours to respond and when they did, it was basically to say its not their problem -try the local service center to see if they fix generators. The local service place was more sympathetic, but that doesn't put power in your lines. I am probably going to be stuck lugging a 350 lb. brand new generator to see if they can find out what's wrong. I'll give the generator 2 stars on looks alone. But I would much prefer a generator that is useable and that has a service crew that is even minimally interested in helping. One way or another I will get this thing to work, but for something that costs over $2ooo, I would have expected a generator that had been inspected by someone other than me.

Summary: Great Generator 2006-11-09
Comment: This generator does everything in the house at the same time; well, heat, washer, dryer, 2 Refrigerator, 1 Freezer and all of our lights. In order for me to understand what our needs were I converted our 200 amps (breaker panel) into 22,000 watts needed to power everything at the same time (If you where maxing out all the breakers at the same time), which you don't do. So I knew that 19500 watts surge would work great. Sure enough we lost power 5 weeks after getting the generator and in doing so I switched over to using it. Everything worked like a charm. Everyone else was out for 5 hours we were not. My wife and I think this was a great investment.

Summary: Excellent generator 2006-08-21
Comment: I needed a generator for farm use that would also be big enough to power my home in Jackson, MS in the event of another weather disaster. I have a large home powered by two separate AC units, so required 10,000 watts minimum. Also, after conferring with over a dozen people who purchased different generators after Katrina, I knew it had to be powered by Honda.
None of local warehouse stores (Home Depot, Lowes, etc.) carried anything nearly big enough so my internet research focused on Honda-powered generators exclusively. This bad boy fits the bill perfectly. The folks at Amazon were very helpful and it arrived two days earlier than they said it would. No problems at all with setup and it runs like a dream. I've already used it to power a heavy duty stick welder and associated equipment in the deep backwoods. Beware, though -- it a very heavy piece of equipment which really requires a dedicated trailer.

Comment: I used this during 2 hurricanes and was excellent for getting my entire house up and running. I was able to use everything in the house including my central air-conditioner.
