Amazon.com Product Description

The Remington 16-inch 3.5 HP electric chainsaw is ideal for fast, easy trimming, pruning, tree-felling, firewood-cutting, and more. With a handling weight of only 9.4 pounds, the 3.5 HP saw gives maximum peak horsepower in a lightweight, easy-to-handle package. Several safety features are built in, including: front and rear hand guards for operator protection; a trigger lock-out; and a reduced kickback guide bar. Unlike gas-powered chainsaws, the electric chainsaw does not contribute to air pollution and requires no gasoline or oil to mix -- and it's also quieter. It also includes a an automatic bar oiler; soft-touch rear grip for reduced vibration and comfort; and steel bucking teeth for added leverage. The chainsaw comes preassembled and includes a 1-year limited warranty.

Summary: Easy to use, low maintenance, powerful and light 2008-08-22
Comment: The chainsaw comes pre-assembled and basically you just have to fill it with oil and go. This works very well and it is very quiet. You don't have the noise and weight of a 2-stroke gas engine so it is much lighter and easier to manipulate. I used this one in the woods with my generator and it works great as well. Did not do any major tree cutting but it is good to trim down trees that have fallen after the storm or anything that does not require logger skills to put down.
It comes with a complete manual that also explains the basics of cutting trees. Excellent product overall especially for this price.

Summary: cheaper than a cord of firewood 2007-09-01
Comment: I use a woodstove to supplement the gas furnace in the basement. Some years I burn a cord and a half some years less. In my region of the us a cord of wood dried split and delivered is over $200. I have access to a lot of wood pallets, thick branches, town highway dept trimmings (logs). etc. I buy these electric saws when they are on sale and honestly beat the crap out of them.
I figure if I cut up a cord of wood with just one of them, it's paid for itself. I've had my Rem 16inch for about two or three years. A new chain these days costs about $18+ sharpening a new chain I have to guess around $10. For a few dollars more (on sale) plus tax you get a new saw with a new chain.

I agree with a lot of the past writers about the tensioner, even given that a new chain STRETCHES a bit, it is a piece of crap. I have no doubt that Remington knows. Be careful of OVER tightening the two bolts holding the bar in place, they will strip the threads.

the oil leaks out on its own whether you have a push button or an automatic.

like someone else said the pro and con is ITS CHEAP! good luck and be careful it jumps around a bit.

Summary: buy a different saw 2007-06-22
Comment: This saw is not worth any price as it is an inferior product. I purchased the saw to cut brush and limbs and it is miserable to use for two reasons.

1. The chain will come off over and over again. No matter what I tried from the owner's manual, I was unable to get the chain to stay on for any amount of time.

2. The saw had an oil leak from the first use and after two quarts of oil, I have been able to cut only a few pieces of wood.

Also, the company has a poor website with no online tips.

Again, avoid this saw and find another one. I purchased a ten dollar hand saw which is far superior to the Remington.

Summary: Junk 2007-04-22
Comment: Bought the Remington Model 107625 about 6 months ago after a long term electric saw quit (at least ten years old and heavily used). Used this saw once for trimming up some small branches. Used it on a larger piece, making sure it was full of oil (the oil will leak out when it's being stored), and shutting it off every few minutes to keep the electric motor cool. Had to adjust the blade twice. After setting it aside for about fifteen minutes, I found it wouldn't turn on. No problem with electric service, it's the chainsaw. Having it repaired (if parts are even available) would cost more than the price of the chainsaw. It's Junk.

Summary: Worked for two years 2007-04-12
Comment: My saw is two years old and died today, probably because I worked it a little too hard. It worked well for its first year, although I would have prefered to have a little more power. In its second season I had a tree dying in my front yard, and brought out my saw. The motor seemed to be wheezing, so I stopped working and cleaned the saw, which did not really help. So I set to work and felled several sections of this dead pine, then buck it into about a third of a cord. While slicing through the thicker end of the second section the saw froze, and now will not restart again. I think this saw is fine for light work, but not for medium size trees.
I did like it enough to purchase another electric chainsaw, just one with a little more power like the the mikita 16 inch, or poulan 18 inch, 4 horsepower.
One warning, the tension mechanism is pretty much a waste of time. The idea is that you must loosen the bar brace, turn a thumb screw, and then reset the two nuts. I just set it at the beginning and hope it doesn't vibrate loose.
