Amazon.com Review

Whoever guessed there would be such a thing? The Remington pole saw certainly delivers powerful capabilities, telescoping anywhere from 6 feet, 6 inches to 9 feet, 8 inches to rid your grounds of dead tree limbs without a ladder in sight. As a saw it is comparable to any conventional chain saw: the 8 amp motor plugs a great deal of power into the cut, which is clean and efficient with the chrome chain cutters and narrow kerf bar support. For those who might be nervous about towing such power on the end of a pole, plenty of safety features make it a trusty companion--such as the adjustable chain screw, which allows you to secure a tight chain before you get started, and a chain catcher that stands at the ready should the chain derail in midair. Kickback (which could be quite problematic from the other end of a 9 foot lever) is prevented by a low-kickback chain and narrow nose-bar tip. Best of all is its light weight: the saw is a mere 7 pounds (although even that can seem heavy after an extensive project). The unit operates on a 120-volt household current and comes with a one-year limited warranty.

Summary: Paid for it self with the first use. Excellent Trimmer. 2008-10-16
Comment: Black & Decker 18-Volt Cordless Electric Pole Chain Saw, 8-Inch Bar #NPP2018

Small but mighty. This chain saw paid for it self with the first use. I have about 20 trees on my property. I usually spend about $300.00 a year for a tree trimming service to prune shape our trees. Or I figured it was about $5.00 per branch/limb they cut. They used a pole chain saw like this.

When I saw this, I thought to myself. For the price I'll try it. If it doesn't work I'll send it back and just call the tree trimming service again. I was amazed not only how easy this was to use, but the size of the branches it was able to cut right through. No bogging or kickback.

I ended up doing a better job of pruning my trees then my tree trimmers did for the $300.00 it USE to cost me. Great price, great product.

Summary: Great backyard tool! 2008-06-23
Comment: This is without a doubt a great backyard tool and well worth the money. I have owned 2 different versions of these amazing saws and both versions
perform great. If your thinking about buying one stop thinking about it and just buy it. You'll be glad you did.

This next comment is for the Remington engineers. The only draw back to this amazing tool is the extension cord plug connection to the saw. The only way to keep the extension cord securely connected to the saw is to tape the two wires together with duct tape or electrical tape. Come on guys this may not seem important to you but without the power supply this amazing tool won't work!!!!

Remington 8-AMP Electric Pole Chain Saw, 8-Inch Bar #104317

The saw is a decent product, easily assembled, and easy to handle with two hands that is. It surprisingly worked at the end of 150 foot extension cable. The pole can not be removed from the saw very quickly..it takes patience, two hands, a wrench. I decided is nest to just leave it assembled for all tasks.

Summary: A USER SINCE JAN/2000 2008-02-28
Comment: I have a over 40 years of experience with tools and chainsaws. Don't believe the naysayers. This is a great tool. I have used the 8" model for 8 years and have also used the newer 10" model. Both are amazing. Both cut like demons. If you have used a gas chainsaw you will be very surprised at the cutting speed--these saws remove any need for a gas saw if power is available and the branches dont exceed 8" (or 10"). This works because the motor is high amperage/high power and all that considerable power is focused onto a very narrow chain. Less power wasted making huge volumes of chips means more power for zipping through wood. This is the light saber of chainsaws.
Make sure that you do not try to force the saw with a dull chain. This is a common error for users of all cutting tools from knives to sandpaper. It does not pay and is hard on both the tool and the user. (and dangerous!) [not with the sandpaper, of course]
Be careful! One reviewer complained about the safety interlock. Bulltwaddle. Any chainsaw could easily kill you just as dead as a gun would. Off the pole, this saw can be used one-handed so easily that you could easily get overconfident. Be constantly aware of the danger and study up a bit on proper chainsaw usage if you are not a pro. On the other hand, this saw has excellent safety built-in and I have never experienced a kickback in 8 years with it.
The 10" version is much improved over my 8" version. The pole is haxagonal so that it can't twist and it has a snap action clamp for holding it open(extended). Also, the method for holding the saw to the pole makes for very quick removal/attachment.
Oil leakage has not been a problem when using chain oil, but it WILL all leak out during storage, so place the saw on a pile of old newspapers to soak up the mess.
Regarding the short cord that "comes loose" --the instruction manual deals with this issue. Perhaps that page was "overlooked" by the reviewers complaining. If you don't like the manual's perfectly acceptable solution, there exists an inexpensive plastic gizmo that will hold the cord ends together.
I would like to point out that the closer you hold the pole to vertical, the less it will tire you out. However, the cut branch can arrow straight down at you very fast. Plan accordingly.
All chainsaws are noisy, even the electric ones. If you value your hearing, wear good ear protection. Peltor makes the the best and the most comfortable overear type in my experience.
I have taken the time to write this as a thank-you to Remington for a great tool that has been a big help to me.

Summary: Electric Pole Pruner 2008-01-27
Comment: The 8-inch Remington 8 amp Electric Pole Pruner/Chain Saw performed very well, just as expected. It is not too heavy to lift high overhead even when fully extended. I was able to do much of the tree pruning while standing on the ground. I'm pleased with my purchase, and was amazed how quickly my Amazon order arrived! Although the box was not sealed there were no missing parts.
