Product Description

The DESA - Remington Cordless PowerMower with PowerSelect Technology Model #MPS6017A will make your lawn attractive looking with out the noise of a gas mower or the pollution. The PowerSelect Technology is a new approach to electric power. You now have a choice between a powerful 60 volt battery or corded electric operation - you choose how much power you want. Mow your lawn with the convenience and freedom of battery power or, plug--it--in if your battery is not charged or you require additional suction for lawn debris. In corded mode, cutting thick grass or leaves is a simple as turning the PowerSelect dial. This mower also features an integrated charger - just plug it in, dial-in the charging mode and the battery will begin re-charging itself. The mower achieves the same blade speed found in gasoline powered walk--behind mowers. It runs on electricity costing only pennies per use. Go cordless with the 60 volt sealed lead acid battery for up to 60 minutes of run time and enjoy the ultimate freedom of maneuverability. The battery can be removed and additional batteries can be purchased to extend run time. The mower weighs only 60 lbs. and easy to maneuver with larger rear wheels. It is lighter in weight than many other battery operated mowers. It features a 17" cutting blade diameter and an easy to empty grass collection bag. A single lever height adjustment sets the cutting height for all four wheels with 8 different settings available. It has 3 mowing options capabilities; bagging, mulching and an optional side discharge chute is available. It has a convenient bale handle starting system that is found on similar gas mowers. Product comes with a 2 year limited warranty. DESA Remington Technology Today for a Greener Tomorrow. Summary: Piece of Junk! 2008-08-12
    Comment:
Batteries are dead after about 4 times of use. Could not hold the charge.
Switched to corded mode but still have to charge the almost dead batteries to make it go. After 3 months, this thing is totally dead in my shed. As I am writing this review, I am looking for a new lawn mower.

Stay away from battery powered lawn mower, especially Remmington.

    Summary: Disappointing Quality 2008-08-11
Comment: Positive: Light weight, quiet, eco-friendly
Negative: (1) Poorly built. Power selection dial broke after third use. I have a small, level yard and can cut it in 30-minutes. It is light duty, but the mower did not hold up. (2) Limited service centers. In the Dallas/Ft Worth metroplex, there are only two repair facilities. Both of them admitted to having no experience with this mower were reluctant to attempt repair (for the record, one of the repair facilites did help me). (3) Limited power. Thick grass quickly drained the battery and I was forced to use an extension cord.

Summary: Made the switch to electric 2008-07-29
Comment: Our electric company offered a 50% rebate on a purchase of an electric mower, so being in need of a new mower (owned a gas mower) I purchased the Remington.

I chose this mower since it had the option of running on battery or corded and since this was my first electric mower, I wanted the option. I think anyone going from a gas mower to an electric mower will find the cord to be a hassle and should look at buying just a battery operated mower if you want to get rid of your gas mower. I never use the cord.

The mower takes no time to put together. I saw another review that made it out to be a task, but it took about ten minutes.

Like most reviewers said, you need to buy a cord to run or charge the mower. I expected I would have to buy a cord for a .4 acre lot, so this didn't surprise me.

It would be nice if there was a separate charge station so I wouldn't have to put the whole mower in my garage to charge it.

I don't think there was a cover for where the cord plugs into the mower either (may have threw it out if it did come with one) so the area gets covered with grass and has to be cleaned out beofre you can put the plug in. Just a couple of suggestions for manufacturer...

The manufacturer also states to plug the mower into a GFI but if I try to cut the grass while plugged into any of my GFIs, it trips. Charging the mower with the GFI outlet worked fine. I too have had times where the switch clicks off of the charge setting.

I purchased this in the Spring of 2008 and the grass was growing fast and was always a little damp. It would take a full charge to cut my back and a little less to cut my front. Now we are in summer and the grass is not as thick, nor as damp so I am able to cut the back and front on one charge. I would let the battery charge longer than the 10 hours specified, since that does not seem long enough.

The grass tends to get stuck in the hole going to the bag, so you have to keep flipping the mower over to clean it. My gas mower was the same way, but this mower is a lot lighter than my self propelled mower so I don't mind as much.

Bottom line, I like this better than my gas mower and that's enough for me. I would buy a battery only operated (w/an extra battery) one next time, rather than the combo.

    Summary: rave review 2008-07-21
Comment: We purchased the Remington battery mower 30 days ago. Cannot say enough good things about the ease of operation and the efficiency of mowing. Our property is 100 x 120 and there is more than sufficient charge on the battery to complete the job with ease. We are very satisfied with the mowing results, the quietness of the engine, and the freedom from using gas and oil. Both my husband and I use the mower with no difficulty in pushing. The weight does not appear to be an issue and the physical ability required is equivalent to that of our toro self propelled (which we have since disposed of).
