Summary: Better Than Using A Rake 2007-11-23
Comment: Purchased the self propelled unit in November 2007. I live in the woods, so the amount of leaves can be staggering. Have been using a rake and leaf blower. Wanted to purchase a machine which would suck up the stuff around the house and bushes so the hose attachment was an important feature. Was looking at much larger units, but also much more expensive. Setteled on this unit for price and features. It works fine...when working. First time I used it, the fastener snap on the bag ripped off. Dealer replaced the bag. Nice of him. Using the hose for the first time, I guess it sucked up too much at once or something, but they got stuck half way into the tube. Had to remove tube and clear out clump of leaves with a long piece of pipe. Also had a difficult time starting the thing. Found out the bag was not on quite right and the safety switch was not activated. Over all, it works fine. Better than raking. Bag could of been larger and constructed a lot better , in my opinion.
Now if I could only get it to pick up the dog poo!

Summary: Mostly works great, time saver for sure 2007-11-04
Comment: I just got the self propelled version of this machine last week and used it for the second time this week on my leaves. This guy works well on solid surfaces, leaves, pine needles etc. however, Ponderosa (long) pine needles are not sucked up so well (or at all) on grass. You may have to rake them up and then roll the machine over the pile. I'll try that later. As for deciduous tree leaves, they were picked up in no time and the hose picked up the leaves blown up against the house. All of the finely chopped residue went into the compost heap, the bag was very well designed and dumped it's load quickly and cleanly. A good dust mask is a must.
I will not use this on rocky areas without setting up the height since at low height it pushed the rocks ahead of it and sucked up a couple of smaller stones(not good). This is a big time saver for me as I have 22 trees on the property. We had some of the leaves disposed of last year and it cost about $100 so this will pay for itself in a few years.

Summary: troy built chipper shredder 2007-10-30
Comment: chipper/shredder works fine, all the features are basic, nice is one pull start and picks up most debries(leaves, eekhorns) so far unit works well for the price. Self-propelled would be nice, plus automated hight/distance level from surface would be great. However, it is what it is a basic unit and works well.

Summary: Awesome Machine, A Real Time Saver! 2006-11-23
Comment: Before I purchased this Troy-Built machine I researched Lawn Vacuums up and down, hither and yon. I spoke with telephone reps for all kinds of lawn vacs. I visited retailers and I searched the internet.

You can spend anywhere from $500 to as much as $2,000 on a walk behind leaf vacuum.

I was prepared to spend up to $2,000 to ease my leaf collection woes.

After all that research and multiple discussions with sales people and lawn vacuum users, I decided to buy this Troy-Built unit. The others it seemed would do the same thing, but would cost so much more!

I have been using this Leaf Vacuum all season and it works like a charm. Anyone who is disappointed in it may have had unrealistic expecations. Use it like a lawn mower. You don't let your grass get too long before you mow, right? You mow every week in the growing season to keep things under control.

Same with this machine. Stay on top of your leaves and you will have an easy time with it.

Don't get me wrong, it will pick up heavier piles of leaves also. You will just end up emptying the bag a little more often.

Really the bag size is the only thing I would change. It does fill quick when the leaves are heavy on the ground. But for this price, the bag size is fine and does the trick.

Hose works okay, 4 out of 5, but I didn't buy it for the hose. It's just a bonus tool. And for a bonus tool it is great.

Chipper works well for 1" branches. Again, not the primary reason for my purchase, but a nice bonus option. When the nozzle won't pick up a branch just grab it and shove it in the chipper. It'll be ground up in no time.

Thanks to this beauty of a machine, my yard looked neat and clean throughout the leaf raking season and I had time for other activities! For the price you will pay for this size machine it does a wonderful job and is a real time saver!

If you are on the fence buy it and use it once, you'll be happy.

If your wife says you can't afford it, buy it, use it once and then take her to dinner during your free time when you would normally be still raking leaves. She'll love it from then on out and will likely never question another one of your power tool purchases! Double bonus! This alone is worth the purchase price. A power tool that pays for itself in future power tool purchase permission - what a deal!!

Seriously, you'll be pleased, give it a try!"

Comment: Works wonderful on moderate level of leaves. Don't expect miracles if you only clean up your yard once each fall. I like to use it as a blower first and them just vacuum up the piles of leaves!
