Product Description
Alaea is a sea salt distinguished by the deep pink color of Alaea clay that is introduced during the harvesting process. The salt has a very clean and well-balanced flavor for a coarse finishing salt, and is used for both seasoning and preserving foods. Hawaiians believe that the baked Alaea clay, which is composed of over 80 minerals, provides a variety of benefits, with detoxifying and healing powers. The salt has also been used historically for ceremonial purposes such as blessing and purifying sea-going canoes, implements, and important household items.

Comment: Maybe the foodies in my house don't have sophisticated enough palates to appreciate this. But we really couldn't tell the difference between this and white table salt. Maybe it's not as crunchy? Except that when I used it for baking, it made the bread pink/flesh-colored. Yikes.
