Pont l'Eveque
- 7.8oz / 220g
- Cow's milk cheese
- Freshly flown in every week
- Imported from France
Product Description
This washed-rind cheese is probably the oldest cheese from the "Normandy" region still in production. It takes three quarts of milk to make one Pont l'Eveque. After washing, the rind is moist and gold in color. Its fine smooth texture is creamy yellow and sinks under finger pressure but has no elasticity. As it ripens, the rind grows sticky and reddens while small holes spread through its texture. Thre are lingering traces of sweetness in the taste. Usual affinage takes six weeks during which the cheese is washed, brushed and turned. Pairs well with apple cider.

Summary: Stinky but Goood! 2007-01-03
Comment: After you open this little wooden box and savor the first bite of this creamy, eye wateringly good French miracle, be prepared for your spousal unit to say,"Whew boy, that's smelly cheese!" And so it is, but the taste, tang and mouth feel are just as overpowering for a true cheese head. Just put it in a Ziploc bag before you return it to the fridge otherwise you will have Pont L'Eveque flavored everything.

Summary: Wonderful Reminder... 2005-05-09
Comment: Whilst in France I always stopped for this wonderful cheese. This particular brands Pont l'Eveque has a strong nose and sweet, almost fruity (yet distinctly dairy) taste, and a perfect texture. I was concerned about the delivery as it was freight forwarded to The Bahamas, but unnecessarily as amazon.com's partner did an excellent job of packing. Worth every penny and unreservedly recommended.
