Red Alder Smoked Salt - Smoked Sea Salt from the Pacific Coast
- Alder-smoked sea salt
- 2 oz (by volume) Meadow Glass Jar with hermetic seal
Product Description
A pebble textured Pacific sea salt that takes up intense smoke flavors from slow smoking over red alder in a tradition carried on from the Salish Indians, who inhabited a large swath of the country west of Washington?s Cascade mountains (the Puget Sound was once called the Salish sea). This is one of the more aggressive smoked salts, yet produces an amazingly pleasant fragrance when ground over salads, be they lettuces, kelp, or fruit with nuts. Left unground, it is rich and solid enough to marry with beef, game, poultry, and fish. Salish also lends itself to pastas or other dishes with cream sauces. Unlike its much subtler third cousin, Fumée de Sel, or to a lesser extend Halen Môn, Salish often seems to bring its own agenda to the table, suggesting that finer cuisines may benefit most from either celebrating the salt outright, or using it only in considerable moderation. *Check out the other salts, peppers, and chocolates at The Meadow on Amazon!
