Summary: Best Canned Tomato Soup Available 2008-06-16
Comment: Amy's Chunky Tomato Bisque is, simply put, the best canned soup I've ever tasted. I make my own tomato bisque from a recipe in the Moosewood Cookbook and it's pretty good stuff but lately I've taken to just buying this instead. Open the can, heat it in the microwave, presto!

Summary: Perfect for the Emergency Larder 2005-09-17
Comment: In these days of global uncertainty, it is good to have in stock 7 days of canned goods as "survival food," and Amy's Soup is part of my "emergency larder." I am not a fan of canned soups, as they often have a sharp tinny taste, and are loaded with salt and various unpronounceable ingredients. One also doesn't want a soup that is condensed, or one that needs heating in order to be palatable. Amy's soups pass the "cold and right out of the can" test, and are the most flavorful of the many "health food" brands I have tried.
Amy's Chunky Tomato Bisque has an excellent consistency, and if one was to eat the entire can, one would get 240 calories, and some Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Calcium and Iron, and it would keep you going for several hours. The wholesome ingredients are tomato puree, diced tomatoes, cream, evaporated cane juice, onions, sea salt and spices. This particular recipe has the dairy ingredient of "cream," but several of Amy's soups are vegan-friendly, like her lentil soup.
The Amy's Kitchen brand was started in 1987, and I have yet to taste an Amy's product that I didn't at least minimally enjoy. It is a family company that is "deeply committed to producing convenient prepared foods that taste homemade," they contain no bioengineered ingredients, and to my taste buds, Amy's is Numero Uno in the canned soup department.
