Summary: do not recommend 2008-08-26
Comment: First time I used it the bottom burned. There is a coat of plastic over the entire surface. Do not want the plastic which has partially loosened to get in the food. Tried to "season" it with oil; same thing. Now it is rusting where the plastic has burned off. Will try to remove the plastic entirely from the cooking surface and season it with oil. Definitely not a Plug-n-Play item. OK wok but the cooking surface is not satisfactory to me yet. Thx for reading this.

Comment: I've never had luck seasoning things until a friend at work enlightened me. I FIRST used the enclosed book instructions for seasoning the wok, then added my friend's method: season in oven at 400 several hours: rubbed a thin layer of grapeseed oil all over wok, "baked" (inverted) about 2 hours (aluminum foil covering bottom of oven to catch dripping oil) at 400. Wok has the most beautiful color all over - a deep reddish dark bronze and perfectly seasoned. Gets more black on bottom with use which is what you want. No ring needed on electric stove - seems like a gas stove would be ideal for wok cooking. Regardless, this is a wonderful addition to the kitchen and gets better with age.

Summary: POOR QUALITY, MISREPRESENTED!! NOT HAND HAMMERED!!! 2008-04-27
Comment: This is the poorest quality Wok I have ever purchased. It is NOT a hand-hammered wok, but a machine-stamped wok with very cheaply riveted handles. I purchased a different brand, 12 inch, hand-hammered wok, from a different seller (The Wok Shop) on Amazon which was of much better quality at a similar price. The truly hand-hammered (The Wok Shop) wok has a characteristic series of hammer marks (giving it a scalloped surface), a heavier gauge metal and wielded handles (much sturdier). If I had not previously purchased higher quality woks I may not have known how cheaply this wok was made. I have since returned this wok.

Comment: I received my wok today. It looks like I expected it would. I find it interesting that some others mention receiving 'gifts' like utensils, cookbook, and seasoning instructions. Those reviews are what prompted me to buy this wok, since the seasoning instructions especially would be handy. What I received were the wok, ring and an invoice, so I'm a little disappointed that I have to do further research when I inferred from the reviews that instructions would be included. Probably my fault for trusting reviews and not confirming with the seller. This is my first wok and hopefully I don't end up ruining it from bad technique.
