Agel, a tall grass that grows wild and abundant on the island of Java, is twisted into strands and woven to create these spun-grass placemats. Created by weavers of the Kalimantan region, the work is simple in design yet ideal in its presentation. Adds a subtle touch of island atmosphere to the dining table. Artisan Info: "My name is Ilah and I was born in Kalimantan on February 8, 1979. I learn how to make art works since I was still a child. Graduating from junior high school I continue my study to SMSR. I learn both from school (formal) and from my parents (informal). "I came to Bali four years ago to improve my talent in making art works. So I open my workshop in the Gianyar regency. I create and produce art works from rattan, although at times it is hard to get rattan. "I take pride in what I do, and I believe that my art works will be accepted by people that love art."
