Summary: Great Time Saver 2008-09-04
Comment: I was very pleased with this peeler. It worked exactly as stated. I had 10 apples peeled, sliced and cored in no time. It may have taken a little time to clean but even adding clean-up into the equation it was still a huge time saver. I would like to add, it's very well made and will most likely last for years.

Summary: Must have in my kitchen 2008-08-30
Comment: I purchased the Back to Basics Apple Peeler a few months ago. Since that time I have used it for three apple pies, and 30 quarts of canned apples, not to mention the "extras" that the grandkids did for snacks.
The product arrived in a timely fashion, well packaged, and was very easy to set up and start using.
It has been put through the "speed peel" test that only ten and seven year old boys can administer (10 gallon bucket of apples on this venture :) It did not break, it still works perfectly. The blades are still sharp, the corer still works great, and all in all it is as good as the day I purchased it. We had a blast working on the apples together and watching the peel come off in long strings :) Even if the apple is not put on the peeler correctly (core not straight), the peeler still does it's job. (We each took turns putting the apples on the peeler.)
At first, the spring is tight and the peeler takes a bit deeper chunk than when it loosens up, but the time saved is well worth the little bit of apple lost. And, we did all shapes of apples and all peeled quite well. There is a bit of peel left at the very top and bottom when finished.
This will be a permanent appliance in my kitchen as long as I am harvesting apples. I seldom write reviews but I was very impressed with this product.

Comment: Back To Basics Apple and Potato Peeler
I have seen this product all my life and never believed it would be beneficial. Then I decided it would be helpful to make raw vegetable spagetti. The day after it arrived, I found myself with a bushel of apples. So I set it up and began slicing and coring away. It did a wonderful job and in no time I had all the apples in the dehydrator. Very nice job and so easy to use!!!

Comment: My only regret is that I didn't buy this years ago. It makes coring, peeling, and/or slicing even a bushel of apples or potatoes quick and effortless - and I get a LOT more apple or potato than I did when doing this by hand. I make delicious apple and potato dishes much more frequently since acquiring this - and it appears indestructible. (Once in a while, I have to adjust the alignment, but that takes only a second, and is clearly shown in the directions.) This isn't something I would save in a fire, but it is something I would immediately replace. Truly indispensable!

Comment: I love this peeler. I have only used it on apples, so I'm not sure how it peels potatoes, but for apples, it's wonderful. It takes all of 10 seconds to peel, core and spiral slice a medium sized apple (once you get the hang of it). If you don't want to core and slice it, you can drop that attachment down with the turn of a nut and it will just peel it. Easy to clean too. I've already peeled 3 grocery bags of apples in one morning with hardly any effort. My father was even impressed with his and he is not easy to impress. :)
