Summary: Good Value Either Way 2008-08-11
Comment: I did a little research before I bought a Tassimo Beverage System. One thing I found is that there are a couple different models to chose from. If the price of the TA1400 is a bit much you can find the TA1200 at Target for a reduced price. That is what I did. I called the company and asked what the difference was and she said that there really was no difference... except that the more expensive TA1400 has a built in filtration system and that you could get the same results from the TA1200 if you used filtered water. Well, I can get filtered water from my frig and that is what I have done. Works great! I will tell you that the cheaper model is not quite as fancy looking as it's more expensive brother. The difference is the lid of the water container, where the coffee comes out, and where the coffee cup sits are all black plastic instead of what you see pictured here. As far as quality... I couldn't have asked for more... I didn't even know I would like hot tea but I can't stop drinking the Black Tea and the Earl Gray not to mention the Chi Tea latte... sooooo good!

Comment: Excellent product for the money. It does a credible job of making a great cup of Joe. Having spent a lot of time in Europe drinking Expresso I was only interested in it for the Expresso feature, but find myself using it for a regular cup of coffee like "Starbucks Morning Blend" as well. Only slight drawback is the somewhat high price of the individual packets, but hey, you get what you pay for.

Summary: Expensive, but convenient, fast, good quality coffees available 2008-08-01
Comment: I have had this for over 1 year now and use it daily. I enjoy having this for parties when I can make a single cup of decaf without having to open a new bag or brew a whole pot for the 1 or 2 decaf drinkers that show up. Love that! I would not recommend it for people that drink a whole pot of coffee in a sitting (e.g. probably not for an office setting or a home with a lot of coffee drinkers). Even on the weekends when both my husband and I are going to be drinking more than 1 cup, I tend to turn to our standard coffee machine instead to avoid the expense.
Pros:
Reservoir volume outstanding (larger than the 1200)
Coffee quality maintained (discs are sealed)
Good quality coffees available (Henry's Best is my pick)
Good beverage selection (hot chocolate, lattes, teas...)
Taste does not transfer tea to coffee (you do need to rinse the little sip though, but it just rests right on top)
Quick and easy
Can adjust strength (a big plus for the hot chocolate which is too strong)
Good quality even when you don't replace the filter, clean it with the provided cleaning cartridge... as recommended (I'm just being honest - I haven't bothered yet w/ no loss of quality)
Can remove drip tray for commuter cups (but be warned, it drips for a while after it is "done", which can get messy if you dash off)
Cons:
Price - it's expensive, especially over time
Availability - not available widespread, we have good luck with Target having the basics, always available from Braun direct (which often has promos too)
Milk is messy - you MUST, must, must rinse the sip after using the milk (it builds up if you make a lot of lattes, in this case you must take a wet cloth and clean around the rim of where the beverage dispenses on the instrument itself)
Volume - Braun and I don't agree on what a cup is - a tad more would be nice, but it will fit in your standard coffee cups

Summary: Size may inhibit using /gifting this item for a small kitchen. 2008-07-08
Comment: I am reviewing the Tassimo w.r.t it's size only , and not as its function. That's why i am giving it a 4 star. I am assuming it performs adequately, but its not recommended for everyone becuase it is a large gadget to add to a kitchen counter. For a single person living in a small space, it takes up more room, compared to other appliances, in relation to the amount of use it will probably get. Also storing the coffee and tea takes up a fair bit of cupboard space. Also not a good gift item for a single person, although the function of the Tassimo seems to fit the needs of a single person. But many single persons live in smaller quarters, so before gifting this item, make sure you understand the other persons feelings about using up a chunk of thier counter space for this. If not, you might have a situation where the person actually returns the gift or awkwardly has to refuse it, which is what happened to me, when they opened it and realized the size.

Comment: I LOVE this machine. The last fancy coffee maker I had was a Melita that was a fancy grind and brew. Made great coffee, but then you had to clean it up. The clean up was awful. I also had a little espresso maker and milk frother. I am not a Starbucks worker so I never got the hang of it nor the mix right. Enter Tassimo.
The coffee is super. So many flavors. My husband likes dark roast and I like lattes. We can have both and not waste. This is great for people with mixed preferances or that wake up and want a cup at different times. The clean up is a breeze. Just toss the pod! If I make a latte or other milk frothed beverage I give a quick rinse to the one little circular thing that is easily removable.
I love the chai lattes too! For buying the coffees you can use coupons at bed, bath and beyond or at linens n' things. I have picked up the pods on sale at Target too. I have ordered specialties from Tassimo direct and the servie is always super fast.
You pay for the ease of always having a fresh cup, the ease of no clean up, the ease of selection for everyone....really it is great.
If you try and make one cup in a conventional maker it is awful. This machine is great. I would not hesitate to get it again!
