Product Review
Amazon.com Review

What used to be a time-consuming, messy process is now a snap. Measure the ingredients into the Breadman Plus, push a few buttons, then go for a walk in the park. Return a few hours later--or after a good night's sleep--to the unforgettable aroma and taste of homemade bread. This machine will even make the jam to top it off.

The Breadman Plus makes and bakes most kinds of yeast bread--white, whole wheat, rye, or honey banana--as well as quick or batter breads. Try the recipes in the booklet or your own favorites--just be sure the dry ingredients total less than about 6 cups so the dough doesn't overflow the 9-1/2-inch (nonstick) baking pan. If your recipe calls for adding ingredients late in the kneading cycle, a beeper will remind you. If you want to make bread that doesn't conform to the loaf shape, the machine can mix and raise the dough prior to shaping for baking in a conventional oven.

For the beginner the process couldn't be easier, and even if you're an old hand at making bread from scratch, you'll find yourself baking much more frequently. And this machine quickly pays for itself: think of how many $3 or $4 loaves you won't be buying over the bread maker's lifetime! --Toni Reineke

Summary: Time tested and a great bread machine 2008-07-12
Comment: I have been using this bread machine for about three years and make one loaf of bread per week. It took some experimentation and research to come up with a recipe for 100% organic whole wheat bread that lends itself to a consistent loaf every time, but I am there. I never buy bread now. I have had no problems at all with the machine itself, except that now one of the paddle shafts is getting a bit stiff, which I would attribute to normal wear. I hope they still make this machine when I am ready to replace it. My whole wheat bread recipe:

Dry organic ingredients:
3 cups whole wheat flour
.25 cup stone ground cornmeal
4 tbsp steel cut oats (soaked)
2 tbsp turbinado sugar
3 tbsp wheat gluten (makes it rise consistently)
2.5 tsp active dry yeast
1 tsp cinnamon
1.5 tbsp soy milk powder
3 tbsp ground golden flax seeds

Wet ingredients, well stirred to blend them:
1.25 cups warm water
4 tbsp applesauce
.33 cup honey
1.25 tsp salt (I put this in the with the wet ingredients)

The wet ingredients go in first, followed by the dry ingredients, followed by the yeast in a pocket made in the center of the pile of dry ingredients. This makes a somewhat dense loaf but I have tested it on average folks, and everyone seems to like it. Settings: 1.5 lb loaf, Whole Wheat, Light crust. 4 hour baking time.

Summary: Breadman Lemon 2007-07-08
Comment: The breadman plus is probably the worst item I have ever bought on E-Bay. We had nothing but problems with it since day one and when we wrote and asked for help we were told it was the end of the line type item and we could not get replacement parts for it. A real Lemon.

Summary: no problems here 2005-09-26
Comment: We've had our machine for about 3 years now and have had no problems with it. Granted, we don't make a loaf of bread every day (or every week) but we do make it often. The machine is easy to use and easy to clean, and makes very good bread, and does a fantastic job at mixing dough. No complaints.

Summary: Spare Parts? 2004-01-21
Comment: This is a great machine, but my belt broke that turns the paddles on the bottom and the company, after repeated emails and phone calls, does not seem to offer any support for their product. No parts are available, their only solution was to sell me a refurbished at half price. Any chance another reader would know of a resource for a belt? Other than no support when the machine breaks, it was a great machine while it lasted.

Summary: A Second Look 2003-07-17
Comment: This is my second time here.... as I said in my previous review, I was operating on my second machine which was sent to me (used) by Breadman when the first one failed. Well, the second one failed after only 8 uses and Breadman completely ignored my emails.. I even offered to buy another Breadman if they could tell me if there was a better and more reliable model. The only answer to that was that they said they would be happy to sell me another machine.
My solution to this problem was to buy a Zojirushi. Much better. Less noise, better texture to the bread.
