The professional single burner range from BroilKing is a solid solution for light-duty cooking anywhere that a kitchen is not an option. It offers simple operation and easy portability in its compact, 1100-watt frame. Made with chrome metal housing and outfitted with a heavy-duty 3-prong cord, the burner heats up quickly and is controlled with a smooth-turning front dial. Most effective with pots that match the size of the 5-1/2-inch tubular element, the range is not ideal for rigorous catering duties, giant kettles, or huge skillets. But for the everyday needs of a pot of soup or a grilled cheese sandwich, it does the job just fine. BroilKing includes a helpful safety power light and an adjustable leg for stability. Summary: Perfect Appliance 2008-09-29
Comment: I live alone, and recently built an apartment on my kid's property. I do not have a stove, and this is perfect for my needs. I had originally bought a cheap one, that took an hour to boil eggs. This is just like having a stove, with controllable temperatures. I would recommend this product to everyone.

Summary: Save Your Money 2008-09-12
Comment: The price of this thing cannot be jusified. It looks nice. It even says "Made In USA". But it doesn't say where the heat control was made. That's the weak part. It is just a fancy on-off switch. It has a loose, imprecise feel. Mine began malfunctioning (heat on high with knob turned off) after about a year. A twelve dollar made in China unit would have done the same thing for less money.

Comment: I PURCHASED THE HOT PLATE FOR USE IN SMOKING FISH PER THE ALTON BROWN CARDBOARD SMOKER DIRECTIONS FROM FOOD CHANNEL. IT HAS PLENTY OF POWER & THE METAL CASE HELPS IN KEEPING IT CLEAN. WORKS LIKE A CHAMP!!

Summary: functions poorly, overpriced 2007-10-26
Comment: I have had this for two weeks. It may be defective and I am considering returning it. When set at "Low", it burns things. When set just below "Low" it barely keeps things warm and doesn't cook.
It would be better if the red light were on only when the unit is on, not just plugged in. It is already obvious that the unit is plugged in but the slightest jar to the dial will turn it on and that may not be obvious(a click stop for "Off" would be a useful feature). I would recommend not buying this over-priced, under-performing product.
