Amazon.com Review

Sewing advances into the twenty-first century with this computerized free arm sewing machine from Brother. Simple to use, the sewing machine offers users a choice of 37 stitches, 21 of which are decorative. Utility, mending, quilting, stretch, and decorative purposes benefit from the machine's 77 stitch functions. The UL-listed machine further endears itself with an automatic needle threader, a thread cutter, and one-step bobbin replacement.

The 110-volt sewing machine uses an electrical foot pedal to control operation. Users select stitch styles from a computerized LED screen. An adjustable control allows manipulation of the thread tension, while a separate built-in control alters stitch width and length for varying projects. While only one needle comes installed in the machine, the machine accommodates twin-needle stitching. The sewer engages reverse operation manually. Five diverse one-step styles insert buttonholes, automatically sized, in garments. Accessories are stored in a built-in compartment. Users carry the machine on the provided handle for travel. As with any electrical devise, read the safety guidelines and instructions thoroughly prior to use. The manual offers English and Spanish texts. This item is covered by a limited 25-year warranty. The sewing machine measures 16 by 6-3/4 by 11-1/2 inches and weighs 11 pounds upon shipping. --Jessica Reuling

Summary: Sew Far, Sew Good 2008-11-21
Comment: So far, so good with this entry level machine.

This machine replaces an over thirty-years old "boat anchor" that had become quite sluggish in recent years. This machine is sold in big box retail outlets like Target, Kohls, and Costco, so it's a very basic machine good for simple projects and mending. It's perfect for my needs. I finished an apron on this machine and it handled the project quite nicely. The fabric was light weight calico - not overly challenging for the machine.

I will add to this review when I complete my next projects - some stuffed toys for young kinfolk and a PJs and robe set for my husband. The fabrics for these projects are heavier and may be more challenging. I'll come back and update my review.

Summary: DANGEROUS!!!!!!! 2008-10-14
Comment: DO NOT BUY THIS MACHINE, IT IS TOO CHEAP. AND THE COMPUTER IS NOT PROGRAMMMED ACCURATELY.

Everything went well until I sewed the button hole. The computer had a mind of its own, and would go too far to the right. I stopped using it after 2 needles bent. Thank God they did not break off! Try a Janome instead. Remember, we get what we pay for. My life is worth more than this piece of junk.

Summary: Great sewing machine for the price 2008-09-30
Comment: I just purchased this machine for the little girl I teach sewing to and am jealous of how many features it offers and how nice it sews. I've recommended it to 7 of my friends and family and all love how well it handles thin and thick fabrics alike. This is really a great machine.

Customer Rating: 4 Star
Summary: A simple, efficient machine 2008-09-24
Comment: This machine came with a very easy-to-follow setup instruction. It's been over 10 years since I used a sewing machine last time, yet I was able to start using the machine in no time.

I've been having trouble with getting the thread tension balanced between upper and lower thread, with occasional E-6 error and skipped stitches for the zig-zag pattern. Wondered if it is a machine defect and got a replacement, but same problem on the new one. It appears that this tension problem occurs to me only when I try to sew stretch-able materials, such as cloth from a fitted cotton T-shirt.

The machine has been working fine for a regular cotton and fleece type of cloths. Giving 4 stars overall as a easy entry level machine.

Summary: Who's telling the truth? 2008-07-31
Comment: It really defeats the purpose of the reviews if they are not from confirmed purchasers of the product, don't you agree? This seems like any easy thing to address. It would certainly be more useful and helpful.

I am very frustrated by the reviews-especially the ones by PLEIN JANE, for example. SHE HAS REVIEWED 3 DIFFERENT MACHINES, and HER STORIES DON'T ADD UP.

How many REVIEWERS are just plants?

I don't own this machine: I am shopping. I really want a new machine, but I don't know where to get reliable info .
