Summary: Brother 31 Stitch Sewing Machine 2008-05-22
Comment: It's not the most powerful thing out there, you can't do a lot of sewing on very heavy fabrics or leather. You could make some light weight drapes but, upholstery fabric might be too much for this machine to handle.
For the money it made a great gift for my daughter to sew on.
Now she can make minor repairs to clothing or sew herself a nice dress.

Summary: Good value for a small machine 2008-04-28
Comment: The Brother sewing machine was intimidating at first glance, but it all came back to me after I wound the bobbin. The manual and pictograms on the machine made things easy to use and understand. Operates very much like a Singer and has nice features for the price.

Summary: Excellent Deal for all-purpose novice sewing 2008-04-23
Comment: I purchased this item to sew a "kung-fu" carrying bag that can hold long 8-footer spear and staff while holding bunch of other stuff in it. Thick sewing did not cause it any problem as I sewed zipper through double-fold material, and sewed on haress which is also quite thick without any problems. The set-up is very easy, straightforward. I had have some experience with sewing machines before, and this was the easiest one I ever had to use. Creating bobbins and installing it was blast, and what's my favorite part is that it has tool that threads the needle for you. Yes, that's right, you don't have to lick the string and hope to God that you could put it inside the eye of the needle! It does that for you. I have used it to sew on buttons as well. It came with plenty of accessories, more than I ever will need. I can't say if it will last forever if you use it for commerical purposes, but for usual day-to-day home stuff, it should be more than enough.

Summary: GREAT SEWING MACHINE 2008-02-16
Comment: This is my first sewing machine. I did not buy this machine to sew some major products, however, I have sewn some things around house such as Quilt bed spread and curtain and many many dog clothes. It has worked great so far and I am loving this product.

Summary: easy to use for first time sewer 2008-02-09
Comment: I was looking for a sewing machine so I could learn how to sew maybe one pillow a year, but I didn't want to spend too much money on a "learning wheel" and I definitely found what I was looking for, clear instructions, easy to follow, the price was right. I just brought a universal case from a target store for $20, it fit perfectly and with the foot control on the side, all in all, it was a great purchase.
