Cuisinart ICE-50BC Supreme Ice Cream Maker

Comment: I previously owned the White Mountain Electric Ice Cream maker. It was great, though horribly noisy and messy. The Cuisinart ice cream maker makes no more noise than my Kitchen Aid Mixer. Our kitchen is open to our living room and my husband had no trouble watching TV while I made ice cream. The ice cream was made in 35 minutes and came out unbelievably creamy and silky. The cleanup was a breeze. No more salt and no more ice is absolutely fantastic. And the ones where you have to freeze the bowl first never make ice cream this creamy and firm. The arm will not pop up if you install it correctly. There are prongs on the arm that slide in the plastic lid that keep it in place. Sometimes it is not the machine but the user that is in error. This ice cream maker was worth every penny. I am exceedingly happy with my purchase and highly recommend it.

Comment: It is not plesant to be in the same room while this unit is on. Our kitchen is off the grandroom, the focal center of our home. having guest, watching TV, eating meals while the Cuisinart ICE-50BC is not practicable. The unit is heavy and not something an average female or child could easily move around. I feel the main problem (source of the noise) is from the cheaply made removeable plastic gear housing that fits on top of the unit. that should be redesigned to muffle the sounds that the gearbox makes. There is no excuse for making such a noisy machine. It is like still having an ten year old kitchen dish washer. they too made alot of racket during operation. Then there was competion from European manufacturers producing very quit units and now everyone offers quiet dishwasher modeles. If you know what I mean, there is quite a diffenance.
I love nice equipment and this is nicely made except as noted above. I got this for my wife, but returned it due its excessive noise as noted above...and it is alot more convient and practable to simply buy your favorate icecream etc at the store and spend your hard earned money on anything else but an ice cream machine, don't say you weren't warned...Thank you for the chance and privilege to provide feedback. I learn alot about reading reviews before I buy an unknown product.

Comment: I make ice cream for my restaurant. Purchased this for some home experimentation. It makes great ice cream. I saw some comments about the noise. It is not nearly as noisy as say, a white Mountain motorized model.
The lid is a bit tricky to get on properly, but works fine. I wish I could get one of these that makes a gallon at a time. It's nice not having to deal with the crushed ice and salt!

Comment: The only item I wanted for Christmas was the Cuisinart ICE-50BC after letting it sit for 24 hours as the directions specified, we added the ingredients and turned it on. I expected it to be loud after reading the reviews. But, it was obvious that there was a loose fan or other part clanging around inside the machine. So we had to returned it.

Remember, Amazon will not take back any item that has been opened when purchasing electrical products. So my brand new out of the box Cuisinart ICE-50BC had to be return the company in NJ which cost $20.00 in postage. They would not send me a new one until I paid $10.00 toward their postage. Now we are out an extra $30.00.

A label on the machine says: Unit should remain upright at all times. How did they send it? On its side. Great. That makes me feel real confident about my second machine. I sat it upright for 24 hours like the directions say to do.

Finally, after this initial bad experience, I have to say the ice cream is everything I hoped it would be. It is wonderful to be able to make our own fantastic ice cream. I have my fingers crossed that this machine will last for many years.

Comment: Let me begin by saying I have always been a fan of Cuisinart. But they really missed the ice cream boat on this one! I received this for Christmas this year, despite reading some of the negative reviews here on Amazon. I assured myself that I would love this product, so read the review with this in mind. I truly wanted to love this ice cream maker.
I make ice cream several times a month, using my tried and true Cuisinart Ice Cream maker that requires freezing of the insert. It has always worked perfectly, but I wanted to take it to the next level and make ice cream the commercial way. I was hoping for a very smooth end product, and didn't mind the noise.
I made one batch of ice cream (attempted really) in this machine, and realized immediately that this was not a well designed piece of equipment. The base is heavy and sturdy, and seemed well made. But the arm that drives the churn is plastic!! And there is no way to secure the churning device so that it stays in the bowl. Once the ice cream base begins to harden and the work of the churn blade increases, the plastic arm just can't meet the demand, and when the arm jumps up, the churn stops going. So now here we are, the refrigerator unit is freezing away, but no churning! Almost immediately, the ice cream at the perimeter of the bowl freezes so hard that it can't be churned, leaving the middle of the bowl a soupy mess. And that folks, is all she wrote!
I tried following the advice of others who had this same problem. A heavy book, a 5 pound hand weight, even me just standing there holding down the arm (can you say boring!!) didn't help. The churning blade always stopped.
So do yourself a favor. Stick with the fabulous and elegantly simple design of the freezer bowl Cuisinart ice cream maker. Or plan on spending a lot of money on a professional ice cream machine. This half hearted attempt by Cuisinart to meet me half way between simple and crazy expensive just left me cold. Oh, not my ice cream, just me!!!
