Summary: only good for boiling water 2005-07-22
Comment: I bought this item and returned it. My major disappointment was that part of the product description was wrong- it does NOT have an "aluminum core with a full-cap base." The bottom of the pot is less than 1/8" thick and feels thin and flimsy. Since I planned to use this pot to make chili, stock, and other preparations that require vegetables and to be sautéed or meat to be browned, a thick base is a necessity to ensure even heating and prevent scorching. I was also initially intrigued by the silicone handles- I thought it would be great to not need pot holders to carry the pot to sink to pour out pasta water; however, since the silicone doesn't cover the metal that connects the pot to the handle, you'll still need a pot holder in order to avoid your palms from becoming burned. If your only goal is to boil water, than this pot would be fine- but I rather spend a little more and get a stock pot that was more versatile. A little hint if you're searching for stock pots- search for "multipot" as well- I ended up getting the Calphalon mutlipot on a Friday sale for the same price as this Farberare (and the the Calphalon pot has a very thick aluminum base like that found in their Simply Calphalon line, plus a pasta insert that can double as a large steamer basket for vegetables).
