Summary: Good bang for the buck 2008-03-14
Comment: Wanted to get a full set of kitchen knives to upgrade from a starter set. Consumer gave Faberware a best buy so I ordered this set.
First impression was very good. Blades are definitly forged and high quality: appear to be in CV or 440 range and are sharp and smooth. Yep they will pass the shaving test if you are so inclined. Balance and feel are good.
The steak knives are stamped and whilc the handles match the utility pieces they are not up to the standard of the other pieces. almost downgraded to a 4 star because of the steak knives but at 79 bucks.
How do they compare to the big W and standing man? They can hold their own and to be honest the out of the box blade sharpness and edge smoothness is better. I got curious and went to a brick and motar business and gave W and standing a good once over. Am knowledagble in knives and was happy with how the Fabs more than held up and in finish did better.
They may not impress your guests like the German counterparts but I think I would prefer to own a very good knife set and use the difference to buy say maybe a new washer and dryer, or big screen TV, or new computer....etc.
As a last note - dishwashers are made for DISHES. Any knife will rust, the blades get nicked, and the handles can discolor or come loose. If you feel a dishwasher is absolutely necessary at least get a marine Tuf-Cloth and wipe the blades down occassionally.

Summary: High quality, and complete set of knives 2007-12-14
Comment: I looked around at knife sets for several weeks to replace an old (and very cheap) set of knives. I wanted a decent set of knives that was reasonably priced, had a good variety of knives, and could be sharpened (no "never needs sharpening" edge). After reading reviews for several knives I settled on this set, and couldn't be happier. I've owned the knives for 3 months now, and I've been very satisfied with the quality. I haven't had any rust spots whatsoever, and everything has remained very sharp through regular use. I would recommend (and have recommended) this set to anyone.

Summary: Farberware Knife Set - RUST CENTRAL 2007-07-27
Comment: This is the crappiest cheap Chinese piece of imitation stainless-steel knife set you can ever buy. The blades are thin and soft, they flex like rubber and rust like nails. The handles are OK but small, so you may pinch your knuckles slicing bread. The scissors have already fallen apart after the plastic hinge sheared off cutting butcher paper. The blades have developed rust spots after only a few washes, even after I started wiping them dry after doing dishes. One steak knife have rusted up all over. The steak knives have serated edges so large they can only rip a steak apart at best. The knife edges egdes dull fast, somehow they can't stay sharp. They are also thin, so they developped knicks that sharpening can't take out. I say save your money and stay away, I'm getting a Henckels made in Solingen, even if it cost $$$$!

Summary: Great Set of Knives 2007-05-11
Comment: I usually dont write in about products and most certainly appreciate those who do yet this set of knives are unbelieveable in quality and value. I purchased this to replace an old set and only wish I had done so years ago. Trust me these knives are even better than described and you will not be dissapointed. There is every type of knive anyone could ever need and the weight and cutting ability are top notch. My recommendation is to buy this set and dont look back.
