Comment: I have had this for about three years, I use it extensively every day since then. It has worked flawlessly, it is a good product that I would not want to be with out.

Summary: Food Saver Quality-- F 2008-09-03
Comment: I have had two failures of Food Saver units all their high end Professional series(brand new) this year--- Sad that their quality has gotten questionable. I had a two year old Pro III unit-- Food Saver said that they had shipping issues and could not supply replacement seals. The seals need to be replaced often. After months of calling Food Saver for replacement seals, Food Saver offered to send me a new Professional III. That unit then lasted for 60 days, then the sealing bar failed. I called Food Saver and was told that they would not do anything for me even on a 60 day old replacement unit. I should have kept my orginal unit and bit the bullet for months more unit Food Saver could ship seals. I went out then and purchased a $300 Food Saver Game Saver Pro (most expensive unit food saver sells). That unit has lasted 60 days and the LED lights have failed. Food Saver saver is shipping me another unit, but I am out over $400 and for the cost new machine that failed and shipping costs. I would have not been out anything likely if Food Saver could supply parts for their units (my orginal two year old unit) . Food Saver's answer to indemnifying me as a consumer for part of the hassle and expenses that I have had is an eleven dollar roll of bags.

Summary: Not for large family gardeners 2008-08-29
Comment: I bought the Pro III because of the excellent reviews and despite the few reports of machine failures. Both sets of opinions turn out to be accurate.
In my view, the term "Pro" is misleading. It's a great device - for relatively casual use.
It is not a machine to be steadily used in the kitchen of a large vegetable garden. The instructions recommend against packing foods with liquid or any kind of material with dust (such as dry herbs or seeds.) It needs to rest for a half-hour after every thirty seals (fifteen bags when working with rolled material.) I wish I could have learned about these restrictions before purchasing the FoodSaver.
We grow and freeze fruits and vegetables for an extended family of seven and lots of friends. Consistent with some other reviews, Our Pro III barely survived two monthes. I don't think this was so much a flawed product but rather an item that is advertised to be more than it really is. Fortunately, Amazon has accepted mine back and we will be looking for a more robust unit - probably a Vacumaster which has an internal evacuation chamber more suitable for prepared products like blanched vegetables, chopped fruit and even things like applesauce.

Summary: better updated model 2008-06-25
Comment: this is a better updated model.
the previous model's sealing strip was imperfect and ould make an incomplete seal...not repairable either.
beware of this fault. it is common.
