When air is vacuumed out of food storage bags, jars, or bottles, the food inside stays fresher longer. The Vac 1200 not only seals foods in bags, but features an accessory hose to use with the 3 included accessories: 4-inch universal lid for jars or cans, 1-1/2-quart designer canister with lid, and bottle stopper for olive oil and wine. A choice of three sealing times, as well as instant seal for crushable berries and extended vacuum for thick, moist meats, provides exceptional control over the storage process. After food is placed in either an 8- or 11-inch-wide bag, the edge is laid along the machine's Teflon-coated sealing strip and the lid is closed. Both palms are pressed briefly on the lid, then released, which activates a green light. The machine then creates a wide, tight seal and the light turns off. FoodSaver's patented reusable five-ply bags, made of UV-protective and FDA-approved materials, can be frozen (and prevent freezer burn on foods), microwaved, boiled, and washed in the dishwasher. The Vac 1200 kit includes three quart-size and two gallon-size bags, along with an 11-inch-by-10-foot roll that can be cut to customized lengths. Additional rolls, bags, and accessories are available separately. The included how-to video takes away all the guesswork, and an illustrated instruction strip inside the machine refreshes the memory on how to create a seal. Summary: Save $$$ by vacuum sealing 2004-07-08
Comment: I've tried a fair share of the gadgets I've seen on TV and in various magazines. This is the one I could not live without. Being single and enjoying cooking, I find it difficult to cook small meals every day. With the Food Saver, I cook larger quantities, freeze individual portions, and seal them in microwave safe bowls so I can take them to work. Open up one end of the bag and throw it in the microwave and in a matter of minutes, I have my home cooked meal for lunch at work.I've owned various Foodsavers over the last 7 years and I figure it's saved me hundreds of $$$ by buying in bulk, vacuum sealing individual portions and freezing. This applies mostly to meat, but applies to other things as well. The food lasts, literally, more than twice as long in the freezer because there is no chance for freezer burn. I've read reviews for other models that complain about the cost of the Tilia bags and disagree with them. Since they are reusable, the cost isn't nearly as bad as they say. I generally get at least 4 uses out of my bags made from the rolls. If you buy the precut bags, it can be a little expensive, but you still get multiple uses from them. The only gripe I have about this model is that the end of the vacuum hose that is used for the various cannisters and jar sealer accessories has a tendency to pop out of the unit for no apparent reason sometimes.

Comment: I just got the 1205 and finding many ways to use it. I think it will end up saving me money.
