Summary: Decent knife, seems sturdy, different feel 2008-06-27
Comment: If your mainstay is a santoku or a chef's(I own a Wustoff chefs and a Shun santoku), this one will is a different feel, and will take some getting used to. The knife is sort of a cross between the two. The handle is comfortable and does have a good balance. I had no problems cutting through tomatoes or any other duty at my kitchen. Not as sharp as my aforementioned two but sharp enough. I don't know about the edge retention since I've had it only for a few months. The others have unbelievably held its edge for several years now. It is thicker on the spine so thin cuts may done with another knife. I bought it for my wife since she was giving my Wustoff 4 inch utility quite the use and thought that this knife would be good for her; so much for my thoughts should have bought another 4 incher, not that the 4 incher is in need of replacement. They are all well cared for. Needless to say, she hardly uses it. It does look nice in my block, quite a contrast to the dour German and Japanese black handles. Since I admire fine cutlery, I would buy it again. It was inexpensive compared to the others.

Summary: Very disappointed... 2008-02-11
Comment: Do not purchase this knife. My husband bought this for me for Christmas. After the second hand washing, the knife was rusted - spots all over both sides of the knife. I still have cheap knives from my college days (1993) that haven't rusted. Very disappointed, I expected more...
